I know there are numerous issues with the club at the moment but the one thing I have really noticed over the past 3 weeks is the lack of LEADERSHIP when we are struggling.

We don't have anyone who will stand up when needed and show how it's done. This is not a knock on Murphy who I like but he isn't leader especially when things get tough.

In our recruiting how high is this assessed?

Personally, when we are assessing our list and what we need this needs to be a high priority.

Is there a Selwood, Boak, Jack out there that we can get?

Leadership starts with the President and he must go.

On field leadership starts with the coach.
Did you happen to see Bombers reaction when Menzel hit the post from close range.

What does he teach his players?
Were Geelong push overs?
Are Hawthorn snipers and antagonists like Clarkson?
Are Freo all of a sudden the dirtiest team?

What is Malthouse instilling in our team at its leaders?

Waite is aggressive and a prick but he has publically shamed one of our very few players that pushes back to surrender his defences.

WTF are you doing Malthouse?????????

Sorry Redback but that's crap. On field leadership is about the players out there. How they handle adversity and step up and LEAD when needed.

Look at the clubs you mentioned. They have Selwood, Hodge and Pavlich and they are supported by Johnson, Bartel, Kelly, Mitchell, Lewis, Mundy, Fyfe.

Any of those players would make a difference to our on field efforts.

No leadership.
At 3 qtr time , it was Carrots who talked to the troops, not the Captain.
Says it all.

A coach is a leader on field when the game at a strangle hold.

a coach makes a move
a coach rallies his troops
a coach inspires his players
a coach makes leaders and players realise their potential when they can't

how many games have been turned in a blink of an eye when all seemed lost. That's not just a players doing.
The great club have great heads and then head of the playing department is the coach. He has had more than enough time to instil some leadership in the club but has failed.
all those clubs I mentioned had/have great coach's as leaders who make the leaders on the field take responsibility.
The coach's make the team take responsible and especially the senior members, that's what hasn't changed when Malthouse took over and that's the main area that should have been improved.

Am I supporting and excusing the players fro their weak and insipid display? hell no, but i cannot forgive or condone malthouse lack of leadership either.

What upset me the most yesterday was when Goddard was getting into Buckley.... no one went to help Buckley... a selfish team, selfish players, weak attitude

Also why is everyone ( Jamo, Carrazzo ) but Murphy talking, isnt he the captain ?
The worst choice

Ever thought the decision for Murphy to be captain was made from the powers higher than Mick, you know it looks good from a marketing perspective?

mick left it to the leadeship group to decide
they wernt allowed to vote for themselves
they in their leadership knowledge chose murph....
so thats what the leadership group understand about leadership
god save the ones who wernt even in the leadership group

murph was always gunna struggle... you see hes not a leader.....

Carlton for the last 10 years has been bereft of leadership. No one flys the flag when one of the young one ones is being targeted. Weak as piss the lot of them. Waite is a hero when he can kick someone in the cajones. I love Murphy but FMD, that appointment reeks of justification for paying him more.

Gibbs @#$%&! off back to Adelaide.

There is no one I like in this team right now. There is no one on the Board that I like and I loathe all our coaches. Worst assortment of coaches in the AFL/VFL/VFA/VFCFL.

Putrid. The stench out of Visy is eye watering.

Mick was asked about this last year. He let the players decide the leadership group.
He chose the captain.

In terms of guys who get vocal out there the only real candidates would be Simmo or Carrots, maybe Jamo too.

No one else. Judd at least imposed himself on the game through actions when things got tough, mind you he is an all time great, Murph is not.
Well according to our top 150 players list he is, like Thornton and Simon Beaumont.

bv i dont doubt what u say... but i heard he allowed to players (the peers to sort out the leadership and the captain) he believed it was better if they took that responsibility themselves
because thats what leadrship is..
his choice would have been duigan i reckon....
