An article by Gary Lyon using his awesome powers of hindsight to tell us all Chris Judd chose the wrong club when he picked Carlton over the three other alternatives he entertained when he left West Coast. Nothing stunning or particularly insightful, but a small fact he states doesn't gel with my recollection of the time.

"Kennedy, the player who was traded to the Eagles for Judd, is one of the dominant key forwards in the game, while the forward they kept - who was the Eagles' preference - Brendan Fevola, was traded to the Lions two years after Judd arrived."

My memory was that the Eagles weren't interested in Fev, but wanted a WA boy so they wouldn't face the same problem of a homesick Victorian wanting to leave in the future. The choice was between Kennedy and Bower, not Kennedy and Fevola. Does Gary actually have some inside info I don't recall or is he just wrong?

I suspect the club would have traded Fev for Judd and kept Kennedy if it were an option. I'm sure I remember the club supposedly offering Fev around at the time, but he had little currency at other clubs.

Judd did choose the right club it's just that we were too sh!t to make the most of it. Our recruiting and player development made sure that we turned it into a lost opportunity

I stopped reading after 'Gary Lyon' used the word 'prevaricating'.

What Lyon's conveniently forgotten is that the other clubs had very little to give away.

Carlton had some excellent picks with which to trade. The others had mediocre picks and they wouldn't have traded away any of their up and coming players.

Judd had some integrity, he wasn't going to go somewhere where the Eagles would not get reasonable compensation.

Garry Lyon is ducking the issue yet again. What is he doing for the Melbourne Football Club? What has he done over the last few years? If he would put his money where his mouth is, he would have taken up the coaching gig but alas no.

I have the Biffs, Bumps and Brawlers DVD and Lyon is the victim of many a hit. One might get the impression that he was unfairly dealt with but there is a part of me that thinks he deserved it.
