Over the years I have noticed how mediocre our cheers squad is. Compared to most clubs, our cheer squad area has no presence and I think it's something the club needs to address.

I feel the club is not utilising the designated cheer squad and captains club area to its potential. It lacks passion. This area should channels the passion from the old social club area at princes park. Those were the good old days and we need to recapture that.

The idea I have is for the club to organise an online competition to find a 'captain' for our cheers squad.

Through social media and the clubs official website the club could run a competition to find CAPTAIN CARLTON - a cheer squad leader. The duty involves being the leader of the cheer squad area. A passionate Carlton supporter who has the time to dedicate to getting this area live and kicking. Bring back the passion back that Is lacking at our games.

Applicants are asked to submit a video why they believe they should be CAPTAIN CARLTON and leader of the cheer squad. The public get to select the winner. Once this person is found, Captain Carlton can make a call out to all passionate Carlton supports to join him ask and be part of a passionate Carlton experience.

Our cheer squad has never been the same since we left Princes Park.
It's just another example of our members disconnecting.

Spot on. But we can change it. We need to be creative.

That's why I think a campaign to find a cheer squad leader or leaders is a perfect way to get this area up to where it should be at. To help get the message out there that as supporters we need to do more.

The club could invest in more flags and the old pom poms. The club should embrace the cheer squad leaders and have them involved more within the club.

Every Tuesday they can post a photo of this weeks winner of 'Carlton supporter of the week' on the clubs website and social media platforms. This will encourage kids to bring flags along to games or make banners.

We need to more and we need to get creative.

I agree. The cheer squad should go back to Princes Park.

cheers.

they need some lessons in good manners too.
sitting behind them at the practice game was very unpleasant.
here's a cringeworthy example.
when doggies were winning.
someone from the motley crew yells out,
we let you have it cos you're a 'povo' team.

Cheer squads are ridiculous. Anyone over the age of 12 should be banned.

Carlton. Clap Clap Clap.
Carlton. Clap Clap Clap.

That's it.

No witty chants, songs or otherwise. Who'd join them to sit in the worst seats in the stadium?

They could win me back temporarily if they just chanted 'cheats cheats cheats cheats' for the duration of Rd 3.

Cheersquads belong in the days of goal umpires in lab coats, fans in duffel coats and piles of streamers getting tangled around players' feet.

Its well known that the size of an AFL clubs cheersquad is directly proportional to its on-field success

You're right of course Moshe, 200 people does have more presence in a ground of 35,000 people rather than in a ground of 50,000 (or 90,000) for that matter.

Merits of the cheer squad aside it was a little embarrassing last week that Port's cheer squad was more organised and consistently in louder voice than ours was.

As a matter of interest, can anyone join the cheer squad?

How do I post a photo on here that I took on my phone? It's a good example of why cheer squads should be seated somewhere up on level 7.

Cheer Squads are lame, and the pre game banners, except for milestone games, are irrelevant.

I've always wondered when we would see a talented trumpet player belting out the da da da da da! At the start of a game, or when we are in the final minutes form victory. Should start people belting out the song!
