Carlton are the new Richmond!

Post subject:  Re: Round 1: Pros and Cons

Pros:

Curnow
Ellard had a crack
Yarran showed glimpses
Simpson is the only player with serious heart

Cons:

Focusing on the big ones, Watson and McInnes were embarrassing.
In fact all of our talls might as well have sat on the pine all night, they had that much influence.
Walker had one of the worst games I've seen from a senior player. He's managed to suspend himself, so he won't be dropped, but jeez...
Brock is starting to feel like a waste of space
The whole thing was pretty ugly

1995 is now soooooo long ago. We're rapidly becoming the new Melbourne....just totally shite. But we do have the 16 cups

Few issues

Fitness

Still the same sterile, moribund game plan.

Still bombing it long down the line, still chipping to the back pocket then bombing long at kickouts.

Can you play all of Robinson/Ellard/Curnow/McLean/Bell at a quick deck like Etihad?

Although Watson was being beaten I would have kept Henderson forward and moved Watson onto Butcher.

Kreuzer and Warnock failed to do much in the air; Warnock was better at the centre bounces than Kreuzer.

Everitt is just another third tall.

Thomas ran out of puff.

Murphy didn't get much assistance/protection...they smashed him.

Pro. My alarm didn't go off because these new fangled things ask you what day to sound and I forgot to put 'Sunday'. Got an wxtra hour's sleep.

Con. I woke up needing a piss. Saw the second half and now I'm too angry to go back to sleep.

We are the new Melbourne

With the expansion teams can't see us getting close for at least a decade

The decision to get Daisy on $700k will prove to be a mistake

We really should been focussing on a proper rebuild and stacking up on draft choices eg not attempting to trade Kreuzer for an early pick was a shocker

Pro:
Pissed at the result aside, I actually enjoyed watching Port play... they have some great kids

Con:
As much as I like what Port have done, it's an absolute indictment on everyone at Visy Park that a team that a few years ago had no money, no talent coming though, expected to sit on the bottom for the foreseeable future, has turned every facet of that football club around... and have passed us in every aspect, at light speed... walking backwards.

Will Essendon*'s infractions be retrospective to the start of this season?

Why does Murphy keep handballing off when he could go back and kick the goal himself?

We just had so many players fade in and out of the game: mclean robo thomas bell etc. We looked pretty underdone too.

Tackling was good in the first qtr

We'll get better but geez our defence was concerning.

Port were impressive. How good was Wines??
