Cretylus has placed some performance criteria and goals for the Blues in the 2014 home and away season.

Cretylus’s Flowering Criteria

1. Our club has an embarrassing record against the Hawks since about 2007. Not only haven’t we beaten the hawks but we regularly get beaten up. Clarkson has a perfect win loss record against us.
CFC 1: Win at least once against the Hawks, and inflict a physical blow, preferably two (e.g Gunston and/or Rioli must not depart the arena without a stretcher)

2. Our consecutive win streak is almost the worst in the league. We have not won more than 4 consecutive games in over a decade.
CFC 2: 5 or more consecutive wins (minimum)

3. Match the discipline and 1%ers of teams like the Swans and Dockers. We don’t want to see another disgraceful effort like the final against the Swans in 2013 where the entire team had 39 tackles, and our midfield had about 8 tackles combined.
CFC 3: Win ugly and tough against the masters of negativity and discipline. Find a way to break them open.

4. Match the masters of leadership, character and mental toughness (our biggest short comings as a team). Teams such as the Cats are a good example of teams that expose us in this area. The cats have also had a good record against us over the past 6 or 7 seasons, but we aren’t alone in this area.
CFC 4: Win against the Cats, big crowd and preferably a nail biting last quarter win.

These 4 CFC’s are more important than our final win/loss ratio after the home and away season. I would be more confident in our finals chances if at least 3 of these CFCs were satisfied during the year. If most of all of these CFCs are not met during the home and away season, then it's most likely the Blues would bow out of the finals early (if they make it at all).

(if this topic isn't you cup of tea, then go down memory lane with Lethal Leigh, Swan McKay and Tiger Crosswell over the top)

I totally agree with you Cretylus.

Carlton need to play hungry & disciplined football over an extended period of time to be successful.

The talent is there. Its going to be a very interesting season. IF we can play as mentioned above we could go top 4. IF Carlton repeats the soft, uninterested and selfish football of the last decade + they can be bottom 4.

HOPEFULLY the penny drops in 2014.

Great work.
You should stick to inspirational pieces.

Not an issue. Mental toughness and a willingness to 'go when it's your turn' is the issue against the Hawks, Cats, Dockers and Swans. Regarding the latter - I'd suggest only Simpson, Judd, Robinson and Murphy have it. I think it's the only reason Mitch gets a game.

Well, so far the attitude has not been a hungry one in the pre-season. I would add they need a hunger every single time they put the jumper on. So far so havent.

Its ok, they say, there is always next week.

These guys dont understand how much they need to put into a game by the looks of things.

This is the worrying thing. Year after year, the same thing.

I disagree with both Moshe. Tuohy is consistently out of position and therefore less effective to get to the ball first or provide a shepherd off the ball. Curnow is a tagger who can accumulate possession, but I've not seen him put his body on the line.

Excellent work - they must be the benchmarks of success. Put simply, when it is your turn to go, you go.

Actually, several years ago I made the fatal mistake of questioning Judd's captaincy and whether he was our best option as skipper.

I received an Immediate and permanent disqualification from these premises, and led to the door by the electronic security.

I was charged with Blasphemy and my nickname/address was banished for eternity.

Not sure why you would call this an inspirational piece - I would have thought some of our team and club deficiencies were common knowledge. certainly the hawks know about them and have been laughing at us since Clarkson took over.

The only things you should STICK to are what you believe in - your principles, ethics etc (and respect other people's right to do the same)

I saw Mitch Robinson not go 100% last week and initially thought 'Ooh Mitch - you really didn't want that ball did you?' - but then had to think about it - what's the point? It's a practice match. Mitch doesn't need to practice concussion - he's an expert. There was nothing on the line for clubs this pre-season. No prizemoney, no Grand Final...I liked it. I'm glad that not one club (from what I saw) had a full hit-out as if it were a regular season game. To do so would be bad management.

It would be nice to beat the Hawks but I'd settle for a knock down , drag out contest where we didn't wilt.

Seems they always have a little bit extra whenever we try to take it up to them.

The two Hawks on stretchers would be a nice touch.

I would add Scotland to your original list (which I agree with by the way). the only issue with him these days is that he isn't quick enough to get there in the first place!

I thought we were excellent against a basically full strength north melbourne.

I've only seen half the crows game but the intensity looked fair.

can't talk about the dogs match.

Thomas? Henderson? Kreuzer?

Tuohy is certainly in that group and Curnow does what he's asked to do..........What about Bootsma?........The Green Incident?
