Apparently we're set to announce Dean Laidley as an assistant coach later today. It's been discussed already in Recruitment, but deserves a wider audience… and a poll! |

Has it's advantages in that it frees up Rob Wiley more having another senior head work with MM. Has its disadvantages in that he's openly critical of things that he needn't worry himself with. Not sure if he's doing the same role he did at the Saints, but I haven't seen anything in St.Kilda's midfield the last two years that makes me stand up and take notice. |

On face value that's a good addition and improvement to the midfield team. |

All I can assume is Mick reckons the back line can coach itself. |

I'd imagine the game plan is the game plan under Mick. He'd make the call on how he wants it coming out the back half and into the forward half. Other than tweaking the odd game day match up, I imagine the primary role of all of our assistants is player development. Each has their own group to watch over. Wiley seems to oversee them with that aspect. I'd say their secondary role is placing the cones at training and organising match day snacks. FWIW, Laidley was very popular at Port with the younger players a few years back. A few of them have gone on to develop alright. Bit of a stretch, I know. |

You were expecting a lot from Saints. Hayes was missing a fair bit. Isnt there a saying " No Hayes No StKilda". I dont think their midfield was what let them down. Moreso midfield depth, and gaps forward and back. They aint got the cattle. Yet they beat us. Maybe that was Laidler's influence because they gave us a whipping in the midfield that night. |

I think Laidley will be alright unless he is Micks version of Roos' succession plan. ![]() ![]() |
