Take that, other clubs. When it comes to pokies losses, it's Carlton first and daylight second: http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/blues ... 2v2bu.html |

Great result for the club and well done to all. We need to expand our portfolio and other investment opportunities however! Keep up the good work Sticks & comp. |

How can people seriously still complain about poker machines? If you are too stupid, weak willed or ignorant to throw away money you can't afford, into a machine programmed to take more money than it gives out. You quite simply don't deserve to have any. I like to gamble, but no more than I can afford - and rarely. Why should I suffer for the stupid? One of my jobs is at a pub where the pokies 40 odd keep it afloat. Employing 50+ people. Plus they seem to be of benefit to my beloved blues. If you would know the value of money, go and try to borrow some - Ben Franklin Duh. |

If the AFL clubs didn't have the licences/pokies someone else would...............so unless the governement changes the law, they are a legit means to raise revenue. |

Tell that to the kid whose parent has just gambled away the money that was going to pay for his dinner/clothes/education/etc. Did the kid make that choice? Your theory works fine for those who engage with the gambling but the research shows there are a much greater number of innocent people adversely affected for every problem gambler. Yes it's legal but that doesn't mean our club isn't complicit in supplying the means to increase the misery and poverty of a large number of innocent people. |

I'd feel differently if there weren't a fixed number of pokies no matter who owned them. If Carlton did what North Melbourne have done, it would make absolutely $0 difference to any gambler's life as someone else will have the licence to the machine. The only exception is if people particularly gamble at Carlton venues to try and support the club which I've never heard. Otherwise I wish we had the licence to every one of them |

It is a disgrace when the people's game is funded by exploiting the poor. |

It is an addiction and as much as I may agree with you in principal, until you know someone with this insidious addiction you either just don't know or just don't care. I've known/know some very good people who have got drawn into the lure of pokies as I have with those that are addicted to alcohol and drugs. Can't say I'm proud for our club to rely on this type revenue. |

Otherwise I wish we had the licence to every one of them The problem is the clubs give the industry social legitimacy. No-one would care too much if a new government came in and wound back the number of licenses if those affected we're limited to Mathieson, Packer, Woolies, Tabcorp etc. But when the football clubs the people love are put in the position of having their cash cow taken away it's a different equation. And the government, which has become dependent on the cash cows, is happy for the footy clubs to have that dependency because it makes it harder for them to remove the licenses which means they can maintain their own dependency. Addicts all round. |

I reckon we missed an opportunity by not building a meth lab into the Gardiner Stand and take advantage of the popularity of Breaking Bad, and the supposedly better quality of Blue meth. Sure, eventually, Aryans will kidnap Mitch Robinson and force him to produce mass quantities under threat of harm to family members, but I think the profits would be huge. |

Can't say I'm proud for our club to rely on this type revenue. Working in a gaming room you see the addicted constantly. They throw away countless amounts, become visibly upset/distressed. It's saddening. It essentially comes down to greed, stupidity, weak will or a lack of desire to work for money that REALLY drives them there. None of which promotes sympathy. Protecting and helping those who aren't willing to help themselves is a fruitless task. If Carlton wisely invest in pokies that's a sound investment. A license to print money. |
