One of the clubs greatest players, Alex Jesaulenko is selling the bulk of his private collection on Thursday, September 26th through Leski's Auctions. I won't go into too much detail about why Alex is selling this stuff, other than to say it's not a health nor a financial decision.

It's available for viewing prior to the auction from the 22nd (10am - 4pm) and online following this link.

http://www.livebidonline.com/catalogues/a433/index.php

I'll be bidding on one or two particular items that interest me, but a lot of it is very overpriced. As I understand it - the club will not be purchasing anything. It's unlikely that Alex's 1970 jumper will be an auction item as although it is believed to be his jumper from that era, it is not believed to be same jumper worn in the Grand Final.

That looks like Ian Robertson and Bert Deacon in that pic.

You're right Warbs....I was so busy looking for an aftermatch pic of Jezza's jumper, I uploaded the one of Robbo. Robbo sold his jumpers last year through Leski's. Some weren't the real deal, but the collectors weren't fussed as the prices were under a few grand.

Jezza's jumper withdrawn from memorabilia sale

The article mentions why the items are being auctioned.

Not really..but anyway...as for the 1970 jumper - I heard years and years ago through the late Len Thompson that a few Collingwood players had Carlton jumpers from the 1970 Grand Final. Barry Gill definitely swapped his and Terry Waters has a Carlton jumper from that game.

Yep, some odd items in there.

Can't say I recall him lining up for the Allies in the 98 SOO, and geez, I know our list was on the old side in 96, but Jezza?

The best Allies player was awarded the Alex Jesaulenko medal if I remember correctly.

Think you're right there (Ryan O'Connor?)

Moreso the Allies jumper being sold for about $500 and the 96 Carlton jumper going for $1500

Hi everyone - there is some very interesting stuff in this collection including some type written notes from Jezza surrounding the reasons why he left the club in 1979 and who he in no uncertain terms blamed for the situation.

Go to this link in - and it will take you to the auction website and you can actually see the letters and other cool stuff.

Click here to see the website with the typed letter on it: http://tinyurl.com/p2adl6b then you need to click on the first image of the letter and click on enlarge.

I loved Jezza and he was always my favourite player growing up.

Its amazing given the fractious nature of the football club at the time that we managed to win 2 premierships after Jezza left.

There will always be pub room debate would we have managed to win the 4 premierships in a row had Jezza remained at the club or not.

We'll never know - but it certainly was interesting times.

Just on rare items, I was with a client yesterday who had a weg poster on the wall with images of Jezza, Barassi, Nichols (I think) and Ken Hands, titled 'Carltons Heroes' or something similar. Has anyone ever seen this, is it rare?

Yes. It's a 90's piece. There were 500 printed. And possibly another re-print in the 2000's post Bill Green's passing when prices went up for a year or two on the back of more prints being available. Jezza, Doull, Barrass and Hands.

Good read. What was the reasoning for Lofts wanted Jezza out so badly??

I dont think Lofts wanted Jezza out so badly - Lofts probably wanted Harris out and Jezza was just collateral damage.

There is another school of thought which suggests that Jezza really wasnt that much of a coach (tactically), and that the playing group of 1978/1979 just revered him so much that they would (and did) walk over hot coals for him - and that they really willed themselves to that Premiership in 1979, and that had Jezza remained as coach for the post 1980 period he would have been exposed tactically, as Percy Jones was in 1980.

David Parkin was able to come in (with the aid of 2 super recruits in Peter Bosustow and Ken Hunter) and wring out every last bit of potential from this group in 1981/1982.

It makes for great evening of pub debate which ever school of thought you subscribe to.
