As we all know, this current Carlton team has a nasty weekly habit of letting some dud/fringe/teenage opposition player have their breakout game (otherwise known as a "birthday"). I thought it would be an interesting exercise to keep track of our prowess in this area for 2013, as well as speculating about who will be next.
I'll keep this updated as we go along (and have taken the liberty of adding the first few rounds)
Round 1: Tyrone Vickery (Rich) - 3 goals, 15 Disp, 9 marks Round 2: Jamie Elliott (Coll) - 5 goals, 20 Disp, 10 marks Round 3: Taylor Hunt (Geel) - 3 goals, 17 Disp, 7 tackles (while tagging Murphy) Round 4: Luke Farmer (UMP/WCE) Round 5: Andy Otten (Adel) - 3 goals, 11 marks (4 goals in 51 prior games) Round 6: Matt Jones (Melb) - 27 disposals, 1st goal in league footy Round 7: St Kilda Football Club Round 8: Andrew Moore (Port) - 3 goals (7 in previous 26 games) Round 9: Rohan Bewick (BL) - 3 goals (previous average of <1 per game) Round 10: Lachie Whitfield (GWS) - 1 goal, 21 Disp, Rising Star nomination Round 11: Jake Melksham (Ess) - 21 Disp, 3 goals (first time ever, including the match-winner) Round 12: Razor Ray Round 13 (bye): Port Adelaide Football Club - Beating Sydney and knocking us out of the top 8 Round 14: Craig Bird (Syd) - 33 possessions (previous high of 27 in nearly 100 games), 15 contested, 5 tackles, 4 clearances Round 15: Ben Reid (Coll) - 4 goals (8 career goals in nearly 100 games before that) Round 16: Tom Lee (StK) - 3 goals 3 behinds (5th game of seniors) Round 17: Lindsay Thomas (NM) - 6 goals 1 behind from 10 possessions (first game back from suspension), doing nothing but getting cheap handballs in the goal square and celebrating like he's kicked goal of the year (Bonus "reverse Brad Moran" for Agro's enjoyment: 8 goals combined for Betts, Garlett and Yarran) Round 18: Tie - Matt Shaw (22 disp, 1 goal) and Aaron Hall (14 disp, 2 goals) - (GC) Round 19: Michael Walters (Fre) - 4 goals Round 20: Jarrad Grant (WB) - 4 goals, 3 behinds, 24 disposals Round 21: Tyrone Vickery (Rich) - 3 goals, 12 disposals, 7 marks, 9 hitouts Round 22: James Hird (Ess) - Went from drug baron to martyr and hero Round 23: Sam Colquhoun (PA) - 20 disp (career high), 9 marks Elimination Final: Matthew Nicholls (UMP/Rich) - Four 50m penalties (three resulting in goals), countless soft decisions one way and non-decisions the other. The reason Richmond had a 5 goal lead. (Reverse Moran: Nick Duigan - Went from having a Subway to kicking four goals straight while keeping Deledio out of commission) Semi Final: Harry Cunningham - Kicked both career goals against us in a Semi Final
