Heroes!!!
and they might come from the most unlikely people (Duigan on the weekend)
But if you really think about what a final and especially a grand final is about .. its about those players that can step it up when its needed.
Someone to do something special!
Might be a Wayne Harmes scoop off his own kick...
Or a Wayne Johnston/Peter Bosustow game.
We have always had our heroes in finals.
Nicholls
Walls
Doull
Sticks
Nayley
etc etc etc

Teddy Hopkins

Might be the Earl Spalding smother goal .... might be the Greg Williams game..
But without heroes .. men willing to stand up and do that extra ordinary part you cannot win!!



But come the really big game... you need even more heroes stepping up...!!
You can have heroes and still lose... because you didnt have enough heroes ... (I think Geelong in 89)... but you cant win if you have no heroes..

Gibbs is usually very good and also kept it going
Juddy was a hero
Eddie was a hero
Duigan most certainly was a hero for his goals but he set a few up too and took the body hit when it was there...
Hendo was a hero


Lets see who puts his hands up this week and does those special things players must do over and above the normal game plan and temp to be a hero

MM loves his structures and nows how to string a season together.. and craft a finals campaign..... but come finals.. all of that is thrown out of the backdoor because heroes do the most unpredictable heroic things ... and in the case of Rober Walls and Wayne Johnston .. predictably heroic!!

Keep your eye out ofor heroes.. without enough of them you cannot win...

..there's also the unsung heroes.. ..those that might not get a heap of the ball, but they have non-stop run and spread, the two way sort that goes unrewarded but still helps the team.. ..the guys that put in the spoils and smothers and tackles.. ..those that don't stop doing the 1%ers..

..i reckon MM this year has been instilling the basics in regards to finals footy.. ..we've certainly played a lot more one on one footy.. ..i think during the season there's been certain times when a player or few would 'stand up' in a game.. ..each player definitely has a more defined role and greater responsibility, and it all makes sense when you think of september footy.. ..also looks like it's been coming together..
