Remarkable how flat TC is considering we've made finals in the most spectacular way.

Although I regret it, I feel this same hollowness and at best, a false jubilation. We've had too many disappointing and disgusting performances and too few good ones. We obviously didnt win enough to make it in under our own steam, our list seems to be going nowhere, the players are flakes, and the new coach is struggling to get the right response.

I think many of us wrote this team off after last week, and the first half today was as bad. We all know things are not right at the moment, and big changes are needed club-wide, but I hope we can put this aside this week, and hopefully the next one, and enjoy being in the finals.

I can take comfort knowing (hoping?) that Malthouse knows this too, and that he'll force significant and well-reasoned change at the end of the year, regardless of us stealing a spot in the finals or even sneaking a finals win. The complacency, stupidity and backwardness of this club has to change.

In the meantime, lets enjoy the unwarranted opportunity to break Richmond hearts.

Agree Aramari let's enjoy the bummers plight the irony of us ending 9th and playing the tigers and let the atmosphere of 90k people at the G next Sunday wash over us

Apart from playing port our best chance is against Tiggers
At the very least good experience for our young players

btw - anyone know if club members get discounted tix prices? - It would appear that AFL members get that but not sure about club members?

Not a chance... just first priority

as many have recognised, we are not premiership material at this stage but I will enjoy the week

playing one of our arch rivals in front of 90,000 people will be a grand occasion and you never know we may even win it

the nature of today's victory was pretty exciting so I will savour this for as long as I can

don't really care if we took Essendon*'s spot as they cheated anyway, so in my mind we finished eighth on merit

Exactly, we're in & we need to make the most of it. Play hard at the G and hopefully take out Richmond's finals campaign. We can test all teams in the 8. Who knows, if we strike early and kick straight, maybe we can pull a few surprises.
Port x 2 W
Coll pushed to 17pts
Rich x 1 (should have been 2)
Syd pushed with some bad football in there in the 1st Q
Geel pushed to 3 goals
Freo, 3/4's there
Hawks pushed to 15pts

We choked twice to Essendon*, we've beaten Port twice, Richmond, and beaten every single team below us aside from the Bulldogs - I don't think we are THAT undeserving to be in the finals

And won 4 from 5 interstate, only loss was to Premiers at their SCG fortress.

No expectation vs Richmond who have the pressure of being expected to take the chocolates.

Reminds me a little of 1999.

Plus they have no finals experience.

We have played well in finals during this era, even though we've lost most of them. Having McLean available would be a boost.

And don't forget Essenscum's* drug infused footy most likely helped to beat us twice as well as many other games they won - so if they didn't cheat they would have missed out anyway, so its all good for mine

I cant wait to front up to the Tigers. There first 6 are good but i reckon they fall away quickly.Maric looks tired.I would go after him hard next week as i feel Maric is there spiritual leader.Destroy Maric and i reckon you destroy the Tigers morale. They will drop there bundle real quick if we target there guns. Its definately a mind game next week. This is a game we can win.

I feel ridiculously jubilant this morning. It's amazing how mood altering football can be. My wife, a non-believer, just shakes her head and rolls her eyes as I pull on my Carlton T shirt and head off down the street to buy papers and coffee. Strangers either stare grim faced at me (suck a dick Essendon* supporters) or smile and yell out Go Blues as I walk back to the car. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, it's Father's Day, and all is well with the world.

Yet last week I felt as bad as I can ever remember after a Carlton game, and I wasn't much better by half time yesterday. I don't enjoy football like I used to, I'm too tense, like Mick, to really get the unmitigated pleasure from watching Carlton like I did when I was younger. I think I have enjoyed neutral games this year more than our own. Until the second half yesterday.

So lets enjoy the finals like Aramari said. Today brings back years of memories of the joy of expectation, of queuing for finals tickets, of what might be.

i still have vivid memories of being allowed to sleep out overnight inside the ground at Princes Park as a 12 year old with my 9 year old brother for tickets to the incomparable 1970 grand final. We arrived at the ground at 4 pm the afternoon before, set up some fold out chairs behind hundreds of metres of empty boxes, chairs, milk crates and banana lounges that were marking others spots, and just sat there. Our father wished us good luck and said hed be back tomorrow to pick us up. As people arrived to take up their spots, stories were told, every ounce of Carltons season was dissected, great moments were relived from old timers. It was heaven.

As ticket sales started the next day and as the queue shortened we were 50 metres from the box office when rumours swept the queue that tickets were almost sold out. Panic set in. Each step closer was filed with hope and dread. Eventually we had the prized tickets in our hands and we were overjoyed. The game itself of course was almost too much for a 12 year old to bear, a little like yesterday, 43 years later. But when Jezza kicked the sealer from a snap which bounced and bounced from just forward of centre, all hell broke loose.

So lets really enjoy the week and next weekend because moments of joy have been all too fleeting for us this year and have been filled with a lot of angst.

Happy Father's Day everyone. Go Blues.

I hope guys like Menzel, Cachia and coget the chance to experience the atmosphere.

That said, would prefer to have Judd, Scotto and McLean back first.

Loving all of the Irony!!

For the 1st time ever 9th place gets into the finals.....and plays off in an elimination final against the Tigers, a team that has spent the better part of the last decade finishing 9th and missing out!
We get that extra finals spot after it was taking off the Scum...for CHEATING!

Surely the gods of irony are looking down on us and making sure the glorious ironic outcome is assured next Sunday!

If we can win we not only get to march on in the place of our cheating rivals, we get to do it over the broken dreams of one of our other rivals, from a ladder position that they have a mortgage on.

Come on Blues, goal kicking practice 24/7 all week please!
