OK - most people I talk to say there's no chance of Roos coming to Carlton but he's the obvious choice if / when Ratts goes at the end of the season.

What would it take to get him here.

I'm actaully really interested in this topic so please keep the replies sensible. TC admin - can you filter out any crap that ends up on here.

What would it take? His desire to coach Carlton, dollars and incentives isn't the key.

I have heard though, that he is not out of the question, in fact probably as likely as Malthouse.

Conundrum

Great brand of footy (when 'on') but inconsistent
Crap brand of footy to watch, better results

Maybe we should ask some Saints fans....Lyon vs Watters, or Dockers fans, Lyon vs Harvey

Not that he wouldn't, but he has displayed less desire to coach again than Malthouse has. I wouldn't want a Blight/Saints situation.

I've discussed Paul Roos in the Malthouse thread. Even if you allowed him to reside in Sydney - it's unlikely to happen. Both boys in high school, wife works, two excellent stress free jobs (one of which is with the Swans), and no real desire to get back to Melbourne after residing in Sydney for 17 years. Having said that, I'd be putting an offer to his manager. I think he's the fit for Carlton, but in 2012/13, Carlton isn't the right fit for him.

only that there was a perception that Blight didn't really have his heart in it. But if this wasn't the case then I take my comment back.

We have some good schools in Melbourne, there is plenty of opportunity for his wife to work here, 2 stress free jobs can be changed to 1 stressful job that pays triple.
I don't buy the argument that he can't be coaxed here. It's still a plum job and would complete his transformation to a coaching legend if he could deliver success.

Also I don't judge him by watching Ross Lyon footy. Judge him by what he did and although the neutrals were not enthused, I never heard a Swan fan complain. Even the Swans today are a better team than Carlton with arguably less talent.

He'd be a great get. I hope that Swann isnt fixed on MM till he at least talks to Roos.

I reckon our recruiting has been first class past three years. Improved out of sight.

I don't think Paul and Tami Roos are going to move one son in Year 12 and the other Year 10 to another school. His wife is happy in Sydney. Happy wife, happy life. This discussion isn't new. Been saying it for years. He was sounded out a few years ago. They've sold their house and bought another since then, but not much has changed. Family comes first. Money doesn't really come into play here.

The point is over the tenure of the current coach we have been happy to trade high draft picks. So Roos coming and trading high draft picks wouldn't be any different would it?

Wouldnt mind Roos at Carlton, but not sure whether he wants to come here, or coach again at AFL level at all...

Likely not much difference - but improvement with recruiting is fairly evident. Must admit Roos is a master recycling re treads.

I think it's more the culture of the place rather than Roos himself. That includes the playing group. Look what Longmire is doing now. But it's astute recruiting as well as the re-treads. I said on this forum in 2009 when Kennedy went to the Swans that I thought he'd be a gun. Money was the only reason Hawthorn gave him up. What they've managed to do with Richards, Mattner etc is admirable, but those guys themselves have good character and work ethic.

Rhys Shaw and pick 61 for Pick 46
Martin Mattner for Pick 28
Playfair for Pick 44
Seaby and Picks 28,55 for Buchanan and Pick 22,118
Peter Everitt for Pick 33
Ted richards for 19 and 50
Jolly for Pick 15

That's Swans trading from 2004 till 2009 which was Roos last draft as coach. Doesnt look terrible to me

Yes, but Synbad, Keogh et al. will be insufferable.
