One has to say Carl, Coll, and Ess are pretty evenly matched right now.

Neither club are in the top echelon (despite Ess’s ladder position and being a far better list than I had realised, I don’t rate them as a genuine flag contender), but are probably bubbling right under the top few.

Makes it very interesting approaching the next few years to see who can get to 17 first, notwithstanding Coll are one flag behind Car and Ess.

Which club do we think is genuinely in the best position to get to 17 first?

Well Essendon* probably won't exist beyond this year, Collingwood hasn't got a coach, and Carlton is a leaderless rabble, sooooo maybe all three will stay on this number of flags forever now, and it's the time of Geelong, Hawthorn, Sydney, and Gold Coast. They'll all probably get to 17 before any of us..... (sigh)

The magic potion will have worn off on the Boos by next year anyway.
They aren't in the running.
Reckon we'll get one before the Pies get another.
Agree re Hawks.

None in this era.

Essendon* may very well be in the top four this year but they're nowhere near the three sides above them (Hawthorn, Geelong, Sydney). Collingwood looks to be on the decline, and Carlton are in serious trouble list-wise.

It's anyone's guess.

It makes me sick to think that we were ahead of the Bombers and now they are ahead of us and have a better list that is younger and has greater development potential. They have drafted better than us and have gone ahead of us. The only thing that will hold them back are questionable sports science practices, they certainly seem to have 'injected' a lot of endurance into the team. You couldn't believe they wd go ahead of us after the 2011 EF but clearly they have and they win the close ones, we go down bravely.

If our recruiters dont improve in the Draft even with the new staff they have injected, bloody GWS will get to 17 before we do...............

..most clubs have a good base in some way, us included.. ..i don't think we're too far away, now we have a good coach.. ..this season is more about attitude and standards.. ....off-season could be anything..

We have gaping holes in our list partly because the club have been too eager to fill in those gaping holes. It's an ironic, self-fulfilling cycle.

This sticks in my gut Gerry and makes the very disappointing season we are having even more painful.

Essendon* have clearly gone ahead of us. They have a better balanced, more talented list, with less holes and better development potential. Jesus I hated saying that. Worse still they are tougher, much tougher, mentally. They have won at least three games this year they had no right to win: Fremantle Carlton and WC. We have lost every close game (several we should have won) except WC. Good teams win close games; we panic like an agoraphobic in the middle of the Nullabor.

Reality hurts, Seventeen is nowhere in sight. The Judd dream is gone I think.

Essendon* ahead of us? I wonder how that happened.

It happened way before the drug scandal. Look at their list. Better balanced and higher quality, even before the drugs.
We are seriously in need of a decent renovation...and it will come
Anyone hear Mark Fine tonight?
Said he knows someone in a high position at Carlton. The word is that MM is appalled by our list. The culling has begun (in MM's head anyway)

Alfred E Neuman was always the wrong person to mould a top 4 team with Judd and Fev in it.
The Judd era is OVER. Will collect his half a million next year and then ride off into the sunset.
Thanks again Messrs Kernahan, Ratten and Hughes
I can cope with this, but it's all the children of Carlton supporters who saw the glory days that I feel for.

MM is right, however I don't think Essendon*'s list is much better, if at all. They have better tall talent, I give them that.

It's nice to say you have the most flags but it shouldn't be the focus of the clubs efforts.

There are 17 other clubs in the comp and we should be looking to match it with the best of them not worrying about a number made up largely of VFL flags.

Couldn't give a sausage about who gets to 17 first, I just want our club to be the best it can be.

All Mick had to do before he took on the job, was to ask Robert Hyde for his opinion which mind you was identical to Micks.

Anybody that thought that in 2013 we had anything more than an average list that was capable of finishing higher than somewhere between 6th and 10th was seriously deluding themselves or trying to paint a picture that just wasn't right for their own purposes.
