The last time Carlton beat Hawthorn ... it was 5 years since Carlton beat Hawthorn at the G.

Carlton have not beaten Hawthorn at the MCG since Round 17, 2000.

That was the game where Kouta went nuts in the last quarter after Daniel Chick did a reasonable job on him for 3 quarters?

The last time we beat Hawthorn Rolf Harris was an admirable little ex-pat running around bringing joy into children's lives. or so we thought.

Bryce Gibbs and Marc Murphy were still in High School.
Young gun Jarrod Waite kicked 5 goals and looked to have a bright future.
Sticks and Collo had just extended Pagan's contract on the back of, of all things, winning the pre season comp.
Our Club was broke
Geelong still had handbags
WorkChoices was about to be introduced
Nokias were still popular
IPods had only been on the market for a few years

Bump.
What do the Ashes and Carlton vs Hawthorn have in common?
One long winning streak ended, and another one started.
What a year 2005 was...

My son was the club mascot (ran through the banner with the boys) for the match. I have vision of it via Channel Nine. He was 8 years old. Even then, he looked tall enough that he could play - he is a tall lad!

We were being held quite convincingly but were still in the game. At 3 Qtr Time i was sitting next to Danny Boy and told him (more in faith than belief) that i thought we were slowly taking control of the game and were going to win. We did. Danny Boy then wrote a most memorable "Ghost" atticle capturing what happened that night.

This all feels like such a long time ago. My son is 16 and i am teaching him to drive.
Time to create a new chapter of history which involves a memorable Carlton victory!

Despite good vibes for tomorrow, doubt that we can come away with anything more than a promising showing. Still, want to sow the "dharma" for what we all hope lies ahead for our beloved Blues!

Thank God we've only had to play them once a year for most of the last decade...

Still, until each team plays each other the same number of times, the AFL, as a fair dinkum competition, cannot be taken seriously.
