I'm on my phone so can't put detailed stats up, but I'd wager we're well down the list for G/B ratio.

We've seen time and again our players missing easy shots, leading to tough shooting positions, blazing away and on the flipside some very lazy efforts that yield the same results. This has cost us games (even finals) and affected our percentages, not to mention the effect it has on our players (Kreuzer being a perfect example).

Safe to say that if we're planning to be a premiership team, this needs to he sorted. So the $10,000,000 questions is, how de fix this problem once and for all?

A lot of our players tend to shit themselves whenever they get the ball within range and just tend to bang it on the boot and hope for the best.

As for set-shots, it has to be psychological.

Which comes back to our "introvert" status. Say what you want about Fev, but we've had no big forward since who seem to actually WANT to kick a goal.

Once a couple of players miss it seems to be catching. I guess it plays on your mind while you're lining up

Hypothetical scenario:

Player marks 35m out on 45 degree angle... siren goes... need to slot this to win the game

Who is your preferred player?

Yarran... maybe???

I would've said Gibbs or Eddie. Yarran and Jeff can both be very careless and slack sometimes.

RE: Set Shots - It's all about the proper mental approach, using the similar techniques golfers use as part of their pre shot routine, basketballers at the free throw line and rugby players taking conversions.

The key with each of these is to clear the mind and go through the pre shot routine and NEVER deviate from this routine. When the pressure is on, focussing on the routine limits the mind from wandering into negative areas. Things like visualising and picking a small target behind the goals also come into play. These things can all be taught and need to be practised under pressure circumstances and not just for a bit of fun at the end of training.

The only caveat to this is poor technique. With the exception of Levi and possibly Judd, most of our players techniques are ok.

Watch our guys for consistency of routine during set shots. How many of them go through the identical routine each time? Then compare this to the NRL's Jonathan Thurston kicking conversions. He never deviates from his routine and he rarely misses.

Any 2 bit sports psychologist can coach this (psych, can you qualify?). It's about adhering to it and practising.

A US Sports Psychologist named Bob Rotella worked with golfers and baskbetballers has written loads of stuff on this.

I'd like to know what we've done.

I'd normally favour Eddie, Hendo or Scotland. Yarran's as bad with the set shots at the moment as Murph and Kreuzer.

We still seem to have a lot of shots on the boundary side of 45 degrees

How do we fix it?

Like anything...practice, practice, practice. Preferably with someone standing the mark.

Has anyone noticed Robbo running so far to his right when kicking for goal last night. What the? Run straight at your target, I would have thought. We need to seriously get some goal kicking expert to come and assist us, and soon.........

Norf have kicked 15.6 in their game at Etihad.

What do they do differently?

Was brought up in the commentary last night, and he did it again the next time.
Kick it between the big sticks.
Jeffy last week dropped one from about 50m but he plonked it straight where the goal umpires head was. Pick your mark behind the goals & kick as if passing to them.
It's all about mindset. Most players are more afraid of missing than having the confidence to boom it through. That's why a 50m attempt is easier for most as it's not a soda & also they kick through the ball.
Like Armfields' conversion from set shots last year, he's improved out of sight. Even on the run, I'm very confident in his shots on goal.
Get BT down there...
