Post subject: | Thanks AW |
Took the kids to Melbourne to watch their first Carlton game on Saturday, great result obviously. However I wanted to give a big thumbs up for Andrew Walker. We took the kids to the Carlton shop on Friday to get some supporters gear (just missed training- bugger). After having spent our money, all of us with new apparel, we had a drink at the cafe and noticed a few people hanging around near the rooms. My son was keen to get an autograph of anyone he could. AW wanders out and signs a couple of autographs for some others standing around and my son was so excited AW signed his 10 minute old cap. Then I suggest a photo and of course tried to use my sons phone camera, which I failed miserabely trying to get the damn thing to work, but Andrew was very patient and smiled and was just really pleasant and knew what it meant to the kids. So a big thanks AW. ![]() ![]() |

My favourite player in the Navy Blue so it's good to hear that he seems like a top bloke. |

I have met AW a few times and always found him to be a top bloke. My son had the number 1 on his guernsey since Andrew was drafted. |

He's grown up a lot. I guess we all do stupid things throughout our 20's, but I think MM would have been really good for AW 5 or 6 years ago when the stupidity was at an all time high. |

Hammertime22 wrote: Love hearing this stuff. Yeah me too! AW is a fav of mine, such a dedicated player fitness and training wise, also he always goes in to bat for a team mate that has been roughed up too, likes a bit of niggle does Walks (not enough of that in the team at present!!!) Good to know that outside of the playing arena we have decent blokes at our club!! One thing I have noticed this last few games is he is not being as selfish as he was at times last year in the forward line, I know he has been playing down back but he definitely appears to be assured of his place in the side and performances are reflecting that. I think under Ratts he may have felt he needed to justify his place in the team by getting goals etc. MM sure can get players to focus on their roles and I hope this translates to the entire squad ( understanding of course that not all players will respond). ![]() |

His shoulder issues and lack of knowing where he truly belonged in the line-up... and now he's really an accomplished footballer. Cooney Walker Sylvia Ray McLean Bradley Tenace Waters Stanton I reckon we've done alright with Walker. |

I can only agree. My daughter met AW at a clinic at the MCG along with a bunch of other footballers. AW and Adam Cooney were by far the stand outs, talking to the kids on their level, making them feel like they were the centre of the universe for the time they spent with them. My daughter was 6 but that day Andrew Walker was suddenly her favourite player. Asked her about school, tennis, signed her footy card... all stuff that Walks wouldn't remember but my daughter sure as hell does. At the crows game last week she kept his stats for the whole game. Reading the paper the next morning she missed 1 handpass. Not a bad effort. On the flipside Jake King was a complete flower. Surprising huh? DOA - if you're still around these parts, your boy did the club and his family proud with his attitude and made a lasting impression. |

Should've taken Stanton. ![]() Also interesting to note that we ended up with 2 good footballers out of that list. |

Gotta love AW. It seems players with children themselves just get it. Only takes a few moments of your time to really give kids a memory they will cherish. I remember as a kid I was on a flight with Whitnall up to the Gold Coast (think he was going to fat camp lol). When we landed he was more than happy to have a chat and sign an autograph. Had never really encountered any footballers before that & will remember it for a long time. Was that excited when I saw him boarding our flight haha |
