According to the official Carlton Web site, Robert Willey is our Director of development and Coaching.

An extremely high position of responsibility in the Football department - essentially the conduit that Mick Malthouse uses to implement his football philosophy at our club.

Does anyone here have any concerns as to whether Willey's football experience and competency can match the high demands and necessary requirements for this position?

Do you know the KPIs of the role as outlined in his job description?

If not, then...

Probably not I'd say....

...but Rob Wiley is a great choice for the that position. No doubt about it.

I am not questioning whether Willey should be on our football staff - merely opening up the question of his role at the club to this forum

I have no problem with MM picking his team - and bringing in a close friend that he can confide in.

I do understand that MM would be a little weary of the ruthlessness that our club can display towards coaches, so a right hand man like Willey to bounce ideas off, is a sensible thing to do.

But Director of Development and Coaching??

He has never held such a high position in the AFL, and actually did a lot of running for many sides.

I am happy to have Willey on board - but perhaps as an assistant coach or development coach

Time will tell ............

Don't know enough about him to say one way or the other. Don't think he should also be the midfield coach though. Should be separate roles IMO.

Alan Richardson would have been better, even as senior coach, but I very much doubt he would ever work with MM again after Collingwood.

I thought that Brad GReen was our midfield coach??/

(a player who played most of his career up forward)

Green is midfield development coach, works with the 1-4 year midfielders.

Green came cheaper than others.

1. Please get his name right.

2. I think you'll find Rob Wiley was more than just a runner!!

2 years as Perth coach
13 years as an assistant coach at West Coast
2 years coach of the WA State 16s side

More experience than Brett Ratten and Carlton had him as senior coach for 5 years. Enough said.

I have no problem with MM bringing in a guy who he trusts completely.

Wiley knows MM's philosophy, ways and methods and will reinforce them. The message from the coaching staff MUST be consistent and constantly reinforced.

agree but u also need a guy that can bring in fresh ideas...
not just some head nodding

This is not the model in the coaches box MM had at Collingwood.

His coaches were always the next thing to coach AFL....

Give MM some credit. I think he has proven he knows how to assemble the right support staff.
