Extracts:

.......Just in case you’ve been asleep for the off-season, or following Cricket (which is pretty much the same thing this year), Russell was our first round draft pick in the November Draft, coming in at #9 overall. Up until days before the Draft, there was still a lot of conjecture behind our selection in the public domain, but it appears as though Carlton had picked their man early. “On the Wednesday before the draft, Wayne Hughes the Carlton recruiting guy gave me a call, and said ‘We are definitely going to take you with our pick #9, regardless of what else happens.’ You can’t always be sure about these things but it was great to feel that I was a big chance of going at #9.â€

Have loved the interviews. They are refreshing because they are not 'by the number' standard journo stuff done by the usual suspects (Sheehan etc.) and I think the interview subjects feel a bit more comfortable to talk a bit more frankly and personally.

Thanks guys (Yes, John M - Vacant no.50 died when TBV died. I've gone back to my human nickname!)...

Jarusa - they really do open up, especially when you point out you're a volunteer and doing it in your spare time. Russell was very articulate; pretty sure he's a smart guy. Hartlett was a lot of fun and well Bryan just wanted to talk and talk - all good guys. Haven't met a doughnut yet but I get the feeling that the two remaining are a bit more shy?

DB - hahahahahahahahahahah loser!

I heard a similar story last year that Carlton were going to take AW even if the Doggies didnt take Cooney at No1 ????

No second-guessing there !!!!

Great piece Molsey - you've been able to give us a nice insight into his personality. Look forward to the rest.

But great stuff - these interviews give glimpse into what it must be like being a kid and suddenly pulling on an AFL jumper - end of dream beginning of reality (hey catching title for you next one huh 8) ) kind of stuff.

Well done you two blue eggs you -
