Do banners need AFL approval to be allowed to be used?

I'd love to see the banner against Essendon* making mention of the match sure to be full of aggression and 'needle', or something similar.

I'm sure we can come up with some rippers

unfortunately club has to approve (as far as I'm aware). Any inventive signs made in the crowd would no doubt be told to remove also, gone are the days such as when we played Geelong in the early 80's and the cats banner read:
The
Day Goes
Blue

Surely something witty, and clever can be done? Some sly reference to those cheating sash-wearing pricks being cheats and pricks, and their coach being a lying turd?

Interestingly enough in the early 90s when the Swans were absolute rubbish it was Ess that had the banner

SHAME SYDNEY SHAME
YOU ARE A DISGRACE TO THE GAME

The AFL weren’t happy if memory serves. Swap Sydney for Essendon* & that would actually make an awesome banner for us to use.

In any event, it’s probably not too early to start throwing a few ideas around for our rd 11 clash with the ‘roid ragers

Loved the inflatable syringes idea someone mentioned a few weeks ago.

Using the original question of "do banners need to be approved by the AFL?" as a starting point, how about simply...

"This Carlton Football Club banner has been approved by ASADA"

And for the B-side:

"...and we've kept a copy of the letter to prove it."

Or maybe the boys run out on the 'G to a reworking of the TISM song "(He'll never be an) Old Man River"

"I'm on the drug
That killed Hird's career"

I like it, shame it will be too subtle for the Doomed fans.

Something like this would be most welcome for a comeback right now (related obviously to the Brave Boys)
