I totally agree with Malthouse process first mantra We haven't followed a process in player development, selection and game plan implimentation for 10 years and if we avoid it we won't get anywhere. Our players need to learn defensive basics for starters. Do we really want a coach who rattles off stats about contested ball, tackle count and inside fifties or one who teaches the players how to win the ball, tackle at get it forward? Give the coach the three years not 3 games to get us some where and even that is half as long as the previous coach. |

I agree. For the first time.in years ....even though we arent winning ... I feel we are on the right track. Ill.take the short term pain for long term gain. |

Great coaches are great coaches no matter there age. We will benefit from MM whether we win a Premiership in his tenure or not. The foundations he will lay will become the baseline or our future success. I firmly believe this. |

I always remember David Parkin talking about the process. It wasn't about whether they won or lost, but how they followed the process, how they played, the wins just follow. I'm sure MMs process is about the playing process, recruitment process, development process etc. that's why I wanted him here. We may not will a premiership while he is here, but if he leaves the place in good shape, that's more important. Synners always talks about how poor we are in areas, I believe it's because Sticks etc dont have the knowledge/credentials on these things ( yes, major issues I know) |

I agree with the notion of the OP. Just not sure it needed its own thread when there's a perfectly good "Malthouse has a lot ahead of him" discussion. |

Gavin Crocissca clarified Mick's comments on SEN............... It is not about all about process and win-loss ratios, it is about 'not taking your eye off the ball' now. I think he is onto something. |

Yesterday on 360, McGuire was on and said something about Mick that fits in to our situation at the moment. He said something to the effect of 'When Mick first came to Collingwood, I knew I had 3 years to work on getting the off field stuff right, because I just knew that someone with his track record and experiene would take care of the footy side of things. Even though we lost 17 in a row after winning our first 5 games in 2000, I knew we were on the right track long term. Thats why we chaed him in the first place'. Thats where we are right now. Everyone can see whats he's trying to do. Its just going to take some time as up until now, our team hs been 'all sizzle but no sausage' as Alan Jeans used to say. ITs frustrating to watch, but as others have said, short term pain for long term gain. Mick's track record at 3 different clubs says it all. |

The assertion was it took the heat of the board for 3 years because an established coach has more time up his sleeve before the supporters get feral. Exactly the same as our board has done. Do what was required to take the heat off themselves. The same tactic JE tried. Not saying the final decision was wrong but the motivation behind it stinks. |

I never seen this season as anymore than a development year, a year for malthouse to improve strengths, diminish weaknesses and assess the current cattle. Mick will play more younger guys and build depth in the mean time. Have a top 25-28 instead of 22 |

By not having a process ... we had a process to being mediocre........................................... Problem is we need a process all over the club. I know Mick (and McKay)went through the list pre season and thought our recruiting was very ordinary... too many players of the same ilk... talls that didnt run ... mediums that were vanilla..etc |

Process (including drafting). Game plan. Skill level. Execution. Fitness. Hunger. ALL necessary ingredients in the recipe that is VICTORY. And throw in a pinch of luck. |

I don't think we have the side to get a flag, but MM will set us on the right path. Remember Mick isn't doing this as a short term gig, of he can he would live to coach us for 10-15 years. |

Free agency could be interesting for us this year. |
