So does this pose questions about modern training techniques or illustrates Gleeson was an elite runner?

Just a touch over 3min kays. That's pretty bloody good running for a guy who has to carry the bulk of a footballer, and also train for explosive strength. If they ever restrict the number of interchanges, his value would go up quite a bit.

Now, just wondering if PP is exactly 3.2km or not...

There haven't been any significant advances in training techniques for middle and long distance running since Gleeson's time. To my mind, it suggests that Gleeson did a lot of training on his own to reach those levels of fitness back in the 80's.

I'm amazed that Braddles didn't hold the record.

Best running machine I've seen.

I'm amazed a thread about Gleeson hasn't been hijacked yet.

No. Read those two times on the Courier-Mail website and they were the only two mentioned. Both were PBs too.

Braddles trained on his own until they upped his pay.

Now that he's mastered running... we must teach him to kick and handball

Probably needs to master his running patterns, and the skills will improve. Numerous times last year he ran himself to near exhaustion during games, indicating since he's the fittest at the club he's doing some unnecessary running.

I only saw him run from contest to contest and contesting. He looked stuffed at times. I'd say he got to more contests than anyone on our list and that was what was getting him a game.

Although not hopeless at contesting I he can have more affect on the contests he gets too this year.

McLean does pretty well at covering the ground also but knows where to find space when required and is currently a somewhat better user of the ball

Curnow is a very competitive beast that doesn't like coming second even to his now ex-skipper in Judd, regularly out-sprinting him.
Found out in the skill department on many occasions last year, but I'd imagine Curnow gave himself a pretty tough summer trying to improve.
