I understand we have created a position to manage new recruits so ensure balanced home life/ education and footy life. Also to ensure parents of recruits and the club maintain good communications. Role will also focus on providing similar support to all players from interstate - should assist a few of the current crop. The appointee has first hand experience, as his young son moved interstate a year ago to join an AFL Club. Good initiative and appointment. |

Sounds terrific on face value, but how much involvement can such a role take up? Wiley may cover a lot of that ground already as he's pretty good with the kids. Whichever way though, I like the forward thinking. |

Very much AFLPA driven with this CBA (2012-2016) having a large emphasis on player welfare, education and personal development. Rod Ashman's role at the club is mandatory under this CBA. The AFL also increased funding for player education programs, support and wellbeing services. |
