I regret leaving Power: Stevens

Quote:
"My time at Carlton early days was very tough because I didn't have any idea how bad Carlton was," said Stevens, who was claimed by the Blues at pick No.2 in the 2004 pre-season draft.

"The financial trouble they were in at the time was enormous for the footy club so I had four years of pain before we started to win some games.

"Look, if I had have known that at the time, I probably wouldn't have gone because I still did love playing at Port Adelaide and loved my time there.

"It was purely on the fact I wanted to go home for family reasons.

"But if I had my time again, and knew that I would have had to go through that sort of pain - don't get me wrong I loved every minute of playing at Carlton - I probably would have stayed at Port and finished my career there."

Nick couldn't open a paper?

Fair enough. I would hazard a guess that Pagan would say the same. Ancient history now though.

Later in the interview he was asked if he considers himself more a Carlton player or a Port player and he said he considers himself a Blues player.

Obvious that he'd have regrets....

Can completely understand what he's saying. Let's face it, we were a rabble. The same has been said by many players who were around in that era. Not only was the club in financial strife, which would put a lot of stress on a player, but we also had poor facilities and had no success at all on the field. At the same time, Port were actually strong and went on to win a premiership. It would've been tough for him.

Sad but understandable. Would have been a Port premiership player

He came to the club and was instantly our BEST player. And didn't do it easy. Quickly acquired a hard tag each week and had to do all the tough in and under stuff as opposed to his freewheeling outside running role at Port.

Super player though, with rare balance and football smarts and exquisite kicking skills. Actually thought he deserved the captaincy when Lance stood down and Juddy arrived. Pity the neck injury shortened his career by several years. Could do with him now.

It's a pity his neck had gone, would have been very handy in the last 4 years.......would have added another dimension in the midfield

There have been big wraps on him for his coaching of the Gippsland u/18 team. Would he be worth considering for one of our assistant roles next year?
