Does Fremantle's improved showing so far and win over Geelong in a final in Melbourne exemplify the difference between having a good coach and a great one?

Can we expect something similar when we make the switch from Ratten to Malthouse?

I bloody well hope so!

I'm confused, a few weeks ago it was Ratten:Thompson.

We could very well see the same improvment as Freo showed.
Probably (initally) for the same reason as last year Freo under Harvey had a horror year with injury.

its an interesting point of view, with freo going through a very similair situation, thought without the media frenzy associated with one of the big melbourne based clubs ... whilst it all came as a surprise, i think the fact that not only freo beat geelong, but also some of the wins freo have had during the year, that the move by freo has been nothing but a successful one.

i can only hope that carlton has a similair outcome.

top 4 or its a failure next year (pending a horrible run with injuries). i expected top 4 this year, next year i expect it even more!!

We have morphed into Freo.

Not sure you've got that one right Scott.
The media went absolutely crazy when Lyon defected. As big as Ratten, maybe even bigger. It was juicier because it was more controversial and played out perfectly for them with a ''good guy' (Harvey) and a 'bad guy' (Lyon) .

That's also confusing, because it would now seem... good guy:bad coach and bad guy:good coach.

the media went crazy about it because they had no idea it was happening unlike the slow burn we have at Carlton.

That's an interesting comment but if you just spent a few seconds thinking about it rather than get whipped up in a frenzy to post another negative comment Freemantle FC could do things a certain way because Mark Harvey mean't jack shit to Freemantle FC. You have Brett Ratten 250 plus game player, captain, premiership player and best and fairest winner, lets just burn him quickly.

..took them a little while to adjust and buy into Lyon's message, but now they're reaping the benefits.. ..good distance between the club and playing group and their new coach goes a long way too.. ..and since Lyon had gotten his teams to GF's, the players automatically respected his coaching ability.. ..all this should hopefully be the same for us..

We have morphed into Freo.

We should be aiming higher than a semi-final in 2013.

yep. we should aim for the top 4, but god forbid anyone associated with the club should actually state it outright. is that how it goes?

Who's Harvey Lyon ?

Post subject:  Re: Harvey:Lyon = Ratten:Malthouse

Freo's improvement this year is largely due to having less injuries than last year.
In 2011 they were decimated by injuries however Lyon has made them a tougher side to beat away from Subiaco.

There are similarities but I'm not sure all the circumstances and outcomes are/will be the same.

Freo really began to improve when it was Schwab out Rosich in.

He's a very very good CEO who has been decisive and bold.

Freo won an elimination final that's all.
I reckon MM's pass mark is higher than that.

What we need to do is string a few wins together.... 5 / 6/7 even if we dont make top 4.. at least we will be respected by our competition ... and u give yourself a chance

mm .. has proven he can string games together... ratts was totally unable... making us not a genuine finals threat
