Given our forward line problems this year, how much responsibility should Barker take, and in turn, should he be the first to justify to Mick why he should stay?

- Our forward 50 entries are shite and don't apply enough pressure to opposition defences (more midfield coach's fault?)
- Our structure is non-existent, with Betts at CHF still and leading to pockets (lack of tall personnel?)
- Our kicking for goal remains inconsistent at best, and deplorable at worst. The fact is, poor kicking for goal has cost us games (personal responsibility?)

Should Barker stay or should he go?

I have a few Hawthorn mates who believe he was woeful when he was with them, and didn't mind having a chuckle at my expense when he was appointed.

I struggle to see what he is actually there for. As you pointed out, our forwards do all the wrong things most of the time. Too often I've seen blokes mark the ball inside 50 within range, only to pass to another bloke who's lead to the boundary. I believe inside 50s would be from the midfield coach. I also remember someone bringing up goal kicking earlier in the year, asking who was in the charge and how often it was performed.. Apparently not very often due to potential injuries.

At Hawthorn he had Franklin, Roughhead and Rioli up forward. From reports I've heard (nothing gospel, just supporters) he wasn't much better over there.

I think there could be better out there so it's a go for me.

Won't malthouse want to employ all his own staff? I would have thought most of the assistants positions are a fair chance of being spilled with any change of coach. Especially a seasoned coach like malthouse.

Has to go surely........ Our forward line has been very poor this year. No plan whatsoever. Also we surely need a goal kicking coach. Teach the guys to run in a straight line when shooting for goal. Sick of seeing eddie run off to his right when kicking, also Casboult kicking the crap out of the ball and not following through.

They may well be. But all contracts are aligned with Ratten's (i.e. one year to run), so it's going to cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Our forward line has been the worst part of our structure.

He should have gone before Ratten.

Barker has taught our forwards how to kick for goal like himself. That's the sign of a legendary coach

What if I told you Darren Harris was in charge of goalkicking for a longer period of time than John Barker? (cue Darren Harris - Stay or go thread).

Answer this:

Has our forward line structure improved sufficiently since Barker arrived to consider him a competent forward coach?

NO WAY.
