So many pages have been filled with discussion, it would be interesting to get an idea of who the TC community want as Carlton coach in 2013 in a simple poll (apologies if I've left off any obvious assistants).

If the board has any backbone, they will honor the contract that they signed with Ratten.
They signed him for two years, give him the two years.
Who gives a stuff what anybody outside the club thinks?

Malthouse is not going to do any better. We are still two years away from being a real contender for the flag.

This

even though they shouldn't have given him the position in the first place.

Now that its official, Sticks said it needs to be an Experienced Coach who has won a premiership/s; That narrows it down to 6 men:

Men who have won premierships with their team in last 10 years:

Mick Malthouse
Paul Roos
Mark Thompson
Mark Williams
John Worsfold
Leigh Matthews

If we discount Matthews and Roos for being too long out of the game, that leaves us with:

Mick Malthouse
Mark Thompson
Mark Williams
John Worsfold

I'm assuming Thompson and Worsfold won't move due to certain factors: eg Doesn't have desire and in a premiership window himself.

That leaves us with two men:

Mick Malthouse
Mark Williams

So who do you want?

I'd be leaning to Williams, has a greater desire to coach in my opinion and won't cost us our first, second and third born child.

Personally I feel a bit dirty having so many ex Collingwood people at Carlton.

I went with "Best candidate from a thorough search" ... but it won't happen, because the President and CEO said they would like to have the new coach in place within a couple of weeks.

I reckon the only other alternative the club has in mind to Malthouse is Roos and we all know that's incredibly unlikely to happen. So whether we like it or not we'd better start getting used to Mick I reckon.

What about a Super coaching box of Malthouse, Roos & Williams?

Need Paul Roos as an option. He'd be my vote.

I've said it before, who ever coachs next year has inherited a potential top four list.
The only others to do so recently is Buckley and Scott, and to a fair extent talent wise Sanderson.
The main advantage of a new coach is that he will command excellents and be in a position to execute due to his eargeness to stamp his authority in the club no matter who it is.

Whoever can get the team playing as a team and putting in the effort every single week.

I voted Ratts, but seeing as that's not happening, I'd like Roos

A combination of new ideas and old tried-and-true.

Of those choices: Burns & Malthouse

But overall, do a proper process and find THE BEST MAN FOR THE JOB. Clarkson (particularly had people WTF'ing en masse at the time), Sanderson, the Scotts, all left-field choices and have turned out bloody good. Maybe, just maybe, there's a diamond in the rough we don't know about. Or maybe there's one we do know about, someone already in our ranks perhaps (Richo/Brown). Who knows unless you do a proper search with set criteria, beyond "someone who's won a premiership"

As Spud would say, "Lower your eyes"

How can we take a poll seriously that has D Bailey as an option but not Paul Roos

Malthouse the favourite.
Roos the wish.
Wallace for the laughs
Brown as second last resort
Then there's a five year coach out there without a job: Ratten.
