Best game I've seen Livo play in a long time, no only did he shut down his apponents but he gathered about 10 touches IIRC. Can't remeber the last time I saw him do that
Good game from Simmo also, did some nice things.

Sorry Frank, to anticipate you. But thought it would good to start to hear what others thought some of the positives for the game were. For mine, the standout play was when Carrazzo was in at the centre bounce in the 3rd quarter, and won the ball and fended off his opponent, and then handballed to Walker streaming forward, who kicked long but unfortunately just missed. I think a few have thought that Carrazzo might be able to make a go at in midfield. He certainly demonstrated that tonight (although I still like him playing as our small defender). Another great game, Fev. Good to see him developing the flexibility to dominate from CHF as well as FF. Any ideas what he was doing late in the last quarter when he won the ball and quickly kicked it over his shoulder to a Bulldog player in the goalsquare? Was he lairising, and trying to kick miracle goals? Was he following team rules? Was he a little bored? |

The positive for me was Kade Simpson. A few of the glimpses he showed make me think he's going to be worth the wait. |

On the positive side, when was the last time Carlton kicked 21 goals? How good is Brendan Fevola? His game in the last couple of weeks has just gone to another level. Who in the competition is going to stay with him if he's going to cover that sort of ground during a game? He's playing like a Chris Tarrant type except this one actually kicks goals and looks like he really wants to play. |

The biggest standout over the last couple of weeks is their unselfishness & their camaraderie. Also their skill levels & fitness seem to have improved remarkably. |

We had another win at Telstra Dome and are playing a GF next week A fabulous all round team effort great intensity when we had the ball and even greater when we didnt- not the greatest carlton team I have seen but a great work ethic Beginning to build a real depth of players beyond the first 18-22 and fierce competition for spots Good to get some senior game time into morrell and de luca Swift movement of the ball and a very open forward line Defence still has limitations but are working for each other As said this week our pace has improved immeasurably Another great game from Matty Lappin either up forward in defence or on a wing Leadership shown by campo tonight very good and a very polished performance Hollywood fevola was excellent tonight whether he was kicking goals competing on the wing or sending bullet like passes further forward Greatest Greatest Positive tonight was the performances of walker simpson thorton and sporn carrazzo livingston and deluca Agree with Carrazzo and had a good duel with Cooney and is a strong ball winner and disposal seemed better than earlier last year -always been a carrazo Also thought some of sporns early efforts in the centre square were also quite good Room for Improvement Centre square work -will be heavily tested next week with cousins judd fletcher kerr stenglein Dogs dominant out of centre in second quarter West Coast have tall forward line and livo and thorton will be tested with lynch gardiner seaby hansen cox Forward line played well but still dont get enough crumbing goals West coast wont give it back as easily as dogs so we have to make them pay on scoreboard and if you want to be hypercritical we missed some easy opportunities tonight Otherwise Im still singing lily of languana PS SUCKED IN THAT FINALS AIR AGAIN TONIGHT AND DIDNT IT SMELL GOOD AGAIN Frank |

Good to see Slimmo get amongst the goals, I think a few games with reasonable exposure and the resulting possessions will see him believe that he belongs and will begin to show his wares. Also happy with Davies efforts in the 2nd half. Could someone provide an estimate of on-ground time for Slimmo, Davies and also Norman, Prenda and Chambers? |

I was very impressed with the way our back line worked together. I thought Livingston had a super game at FB, especially considering in the 2nd half he was on Darcy and I thought he did a great job on him. |

Livo, a big positive out of the night. I think he's being schooled by Mick Martyn - punch EVERYTHING, mark NOTHING, give your opponent ABSOLUTELY NO PERSONAL SPACE. He needs a classy sweeper to play next to him to clear the ball, but if Denis is going to keep him at FB, then I think he may well develop into a solid player for us. No injuries, another positive. The theme song getting played six times at the end was also a nice touch. However, sitting within ten seats of (a) John Elliot and (b) Ron Evans... a big, big negative. |

I could not help but think during the game that our coach was intent on winning the game but also had an eye on future weeks and the development of the team. I agree with earlier posts that it was most positive that a few of the younger players were thrust into the middle of the action. The position the club is in makes this balance difficult. A club doing great financially and set for a top 8, like maybe Port, can afford to play all their youngsters and not worry too much about finishing high in the Wizard stakes. But we need to balance the effect on the club finances and the morale boosting ellement against the longer term development of our list. Dennis and his team seemed to have this balance perfect tonight. So the win was a lot more than just winning a game. It was a stepping stone (sorry about the cliche) for a few youngsters who will benefit and who will mould a strong TEAM for the future. |

Cory McGrath's form is a real bonus. He has proven quite effective at the centre bounces and his delivery is excellent. If Cory can get 15-20 touches + 2-3 tackles a game he will be a very valuable asset. We no longer look slow and clumsy. That's a positive too. |

We no longer look slow and clumsy. That's a positive too. I agree Ponkstar. Yet Corey and others have spent a fair time on the bench in the last couple of games. It is great for our depth that we can be missing a couple of top linners and still have very good contributors being rotated of the bench. I think this is one of the keys to our run and ability to continuously have numbers at the ball. |

Carazzo - bloody quick, gets a lot of the ball. Seems to have improved his disposal quite a bit from last year. Simpson - the 95 version of Campo. Same goal sense it would seem. Thornton - class act. Keeps getting better. How he was only originally a rookie-listed player is beyond me. Taggers - Sporn and Bannister, highly underrated (but not by Denis thank-god) Campo - playing the Lappin role off half-back. Looks suited to this role. Turned the clock back a bit with his sensational goal. Midfield - so many options. Hard to believe that a little over 12 months ago we had Kouta, Campo and .....Hulme Tackling - ferocious, even in the last quarter when the game was over. Especially in our forward line. I even wanted them to back off a bit so as to avoid injury for next week/Round 1. Spirit - Enormous. Even Lance who could barely raise a smile last year, running around encouraging blokes. The BIG test comes this week. Lets see 30000 Blues fans making the Weagles feel as uncomfortable and unwelcome as possible. |

Agree Frank. A couple of years ago if the side was to make 5 changes it would just be recycling the same old players in and out. Now players will have to earn their spot, and guys like Blackwell, Russell, Betts etc can do an apprenticeship in the seconds without having to be thrown to the wolves before they are ready. I think by memory there are now only 4 players on the list over the age of 25 (French, Campo, Lappin, Kouta) meaning that Denis can play his preferred option of mature bodied, 20-50 game, 20-24 year olds, rather than 10 stone 17 year olds. |

I liked the very even performance of the team. Most players chipped in. In particular Scotland was excellent. Also the way we demoralised our opposition is a good sign. it made winning the game for us a lot easier. The Dogs have got some talent but fell apart woith bad mistakes and we capitalised. If we can rest our good players because we are winning by 10 goals that is definately a positive. |
