I was thinking last night about players who have recently been de-listed or retired and what they're doing now to either put food on their tables/pay bills etc now that their footy career has ended. Players like Hadley, Wiggins, Houlahan, even, heaven forbid, Cameron Cloke and *gulp* Cain Ackland. Has anybody got any news about these guys? It's just that, I had a thought that I don't want these guys to be merely regarded as disposable, and I hope that they can keep their heads above water so to speak.

Hadley's back here in Perth playing for East Freo and going pretty well. I don't know what he's doing for a living outside of footy.
Steven Browne is playing good footy for West Perth.
Luke Blackwell is killing it for Claremont.

Just on The E Freo Sharks. There is currently 32 former East Freo players on AFL lists.

Not a bad effort.

Had enough of Westies? Well, they did break the SANFL Salary Cap and their guernsey does have some issues. But going black and white? Poor Fish must be desperate!

Then he should be on TV soon. That will be good.
If ever there was a waste of talent, then Laurie Angwin was it. C'est la vie!

Agree totally! Back injuries are serious business and usually career ending.

To change the subject a little, I noticed that Joey Anderson has left Sturt for greeners SANFL pastures.
The way things are organized over in Adelaide has always made me wonder: why is working in Adelaide and not in Perth? Both the Weagles and the Dockers wanted true 2nds in the WAFL, but were knocked back. Instead they are now alligned with just 2 WAFL clubs (Peel is one of them, I think East Perth the other), starting in 2014.
So why don't Adelaide and Port whine as much?
They have a thing called the 'minidraft', where their AFL players get alloted to teams. Here are this year's:
1. Angus Graham (Sturt) - AFC
2. Kyle Hartigan (South) - AFC
3. Ollie Wines (Port) - PAFC
4. Tom Clurey (Glenelg) - PAFC
5. Kane Mitchell (Eagles) - PAFC
6. Jack Osboren (Central) - AFC
7. Sam Siggens (North) - AFC
8. Lewis Stevenson (Norwood) - PAFC
9. Rory Atkins (Sturt) - AFC
10. Mason Shaw (South) - Port
11. Jake Nead (Port) - PAFC
12. Tim Klaosen (Glenelg) - AFC
13. Campbell Heath (Eagles) - PAFC

It appears to me that some clubs are getting the spiky end of the pineapple.

The other thing about the SANFL is that ex-Blues don't seem to stay with some clubs. A few years back we had 3 or 4 at South Adelaide, including Prender. Now there are none and have been for easily 3 years. Are South Adelaide, Sturt and co so badly run that our ex players bail at the first opportunity? It looks that way to me.

Struth - thought if he'd be joining that league he'd do it playing for Fish Creek!
