This 'Malthouse 4 coach' campaign is starting to get out of control.

If Ratts is shown the door I implore the club to go through an open and comprehensive process to find a replacement.

It's too important a role these days not to be thorough about an appointment.

I think they know what they are going to get if they get Malthouse, Williams, Eade or Thompson. If they have identified what we need they would know if which of these guys will deliver.

That is a process but not the sort most are after where we do a lot of interviews with untried guys and listen to their presentations and the like. Still a comprehensive process all the same.

Our club loves a quick fix, so I'd be absolutely amazed if MM wasn't being single-mindedly pursued by Sticks and Co.

It also wouldn't surprise me if this started quite some time ago, about the time Travis Cloke started making impossible demands of Collingwood.

I'm not normally one for conspiracy theories, but it seems like Cloke has done everything he can to make it impossible for Collingwood to re-sign him. There's a fair chance he wants to play under MM, and is happy for talks to stall in order to make a free agency shift to a MM-coached Carlton a possibility.

Don't know if MM is the right choice, but I do think I know how our leadership operates. I reckon he's our next coach.

I actually thought supporters wanted the quick fix.

You speak of 'supporters' like they're a homogenous group. I'd say there'd be a dozen different attitudes across the CFC supporter group.

There's a dozen different attitudes in this thread alone

Maybe we can get Cameron back aswell and have two Clokes in the team.

Why dont you want Cloke. :?
Is it the price ,ability or the person. One thing i will give him he rarely
misses a game not like our Waite who if he is not suspended is injured .
I dont want him if we have to sell our soul but if we can get a good price for him
then we should go for it

Unless there is a significant form reversal, or we get lucky and make the finals and actually have an impact in the final series I doubt you'd find many supporters excited about a Brett ratten led Carlton in 2013. Membership would decline.

But if they truly believe ratten is the man for the job then they should go with him. I doubt Cats supporters were particularly excited about Mark Thompson coached them the year before he took them to the flag.

I don't want either of them

Especially without Setanta around to kick a Cloke up the bum.

It's complicated and we've gone through it in the relevant thread in 'talking recruitment'. On top of that, we could get two decent players for the price of one Cloke if we did the work.

Cloke could be the guy who puts us over the top.

If reports that Waite may not play after this year due to his back injury, we could have him off our books sooner rather then later. His money can go towards Cloke.

I've been told (by somebody with connections inside the club) that Ratts won't be there next year................

However, he said that we can't afford Malthouse with what he's asking for whilst paying out Ratt's at the same time.

Don't know if it's true or not......... but this guy is pretty connected.

The 'can't afford Malthouse' story is interesting, if true. I can understand the Club not being able to afford him AND pay out Ratten, but was there any difference with Pagan/Brittain? There is money around the Club, if not in it, you would imagine.

My personal opinion is that I don't think Ratten would be replaced by a first-time coach. I can't see the Club going down that path. As much as I would love to see a thorough selection process, I think (and have posted this once before) that if we need a coach who can come in and stamp his authority immediately, start to establish a culture and demand leadership from day 1. This to me can only come from an experienced coach, one who can look Kernahan / Swann / McKay in the eye and say, "No. We are not doing it that way. We're doing it THIS way". A first up coach couldn't do that, I don't think.

Malthouse, Roos, Thompson could do that. To a lesser extent Williams and Eade. Roos isn't available, and I wouldn't have thought Thompson would be. Malthouse, Williams and Eade are.

Aren't we forgetting one thing ? Malthouse has stated more than once he will NOT go to a club that sacks their coach to accommodate him.

So for Mick to join Carlton, wouldn't that require Ratts to fall on his sword and resign ?

Stranger things have happened, but if Ratts decides to tough it out and ultimately be sacked, then Mick won't coach Carlton !!!

Source ? Michael Malthouse !!!!!!!

I don't think that's what Mick's been saying. Whether it's principle or spin to take pressure off all parties, if Carlton sacked Ratts after the last game, Mick would not consider that a disqualifying act.

Except that Ratts has a contract for next year.

A lot of guess work going on. But at least there is no measuring of genitalia at the moment, which is nice.

Agree Siegfried. The selection process is now a luxury we can`t afford. Should have been done before the Ratts appointment was made.

Yes, i thought I heard that the last year was conditional.
If we don't make finals, that might be true.
