my two cents wrote:
The Pagan comparisons are bit unfair. Pagan found it difficult to adapt from from one decade to another, and also to another club without a Carey. MM has been successful across two clubs and 3 decades. Shows more adaptability and a progressive mind set. Given his experience at WC and Collingwood, I am keen to see how our player development fares under MM. Lets see how he goes.

I am a bit concerned about the Rob Wiley appointment - I understand that he is a highly regarded football person but he has been out of senior football for a few years now.

Though it's not exactly the same as Pagan bringing over "Trout Elshaugh" it has that same feel to me.

If he can't get us some decent September action, then the whole club needs to be burnt to the ground and rebuilt.

Decent September action? Why skirt around the edges chucky. If he can't win us a premiership or hopefully 2 the whole thing's a failure. Pure & simple.

BTW agree the Pagan comparisons are a bit unfair. Pagan was only 54 when he took over us.

It's probably a bit more like Alan Jeans' successful stint at Richmond.

We sent Pagan to a gun fight armed with a Bowie knife.

Well,

Juddy's got 3 years left in him so I can see where the club is coming from in recruiting Malthouse.

But.............. I still just can't stand the prick!!!!!

The guy shits me too but if he gets us a premiership he can piss anyone off for all I care!

Only thing that concerns me is that Malthouse will not begin official duties until 1st November. That being the case, he will not be a round for trade period. One would think that he would need to be available for that.

I think the bloke is too old and has had his day. I also think the board has once again made a rash decision trying to get a quick fix.
Football isnt just about winning games. Your club should operate with some sort of integrity as well.
We had success in the late 90s but the salary cap cheating placed a stench over our club that still remains. The fact we are viewed as cheats doesnt sit well with me.

And now we're hiring a bloke who IMHO doesnt know how to act with integrity. His actions in the Stephen Milne saga were a disgrace. He showed an inability to accept responsibility for his actions and blatantly lied to try to save his own arse.
The last week we have seen him claim zero responsibility for the sacking of the incumbent assistants (which is nonsense) and then we've seen him concoct a blatant lie about Alan Richardson to discredit the bloke.

I've had more than my say on this issue and I'll attempt to finish it at this post but for those who simply point to Malthouses games results, it goes further than that. This bloke is now representing our club and as a result, representing you as a supporter.
To think it will simply be about win/loss is underestimating the baggage that comes with this decision IMO.
Anyway, I've well and truly expressed my views and its time for me to move forward.

Good post.

I understand the concern though there aren't too many people who've been in footy for four decades and don't regret a few of the things they've said and done. It's possibly easier to own them once you've retired (Matthews and Bruns, Walls and sniping, Parko and just about everything  ).

I have queries over him too but I'll now back him, like Ratts and Pagan before him, until I don't.

That's the official starting date. I'm sure there'll be plenty of meetings before then.

Besides, the idea of a coach not being too heavily involved in trade week has some merit going on our record over the last 10-15 years.

He hasn't even signed on and he has got rid of 3 assistant coaches and your worried about him not being around at trade time

He is saying that to keep his current employers happy

Unless it slipped his mind that there is actually a trade period each year.

I just think it looks bad when you are trying to impress. There is already some supporter concerns about MM being our coach. Why throw fuel to the fire.

Interesting that Ratts stated on SEN this morning, that this offseason only 5 players will have operations (mid-major). Last few years it's been 10-12.

Nope. But we used 41 players on our list, 3rd most begin the expansion teams. ;-)

September 11 will be remembered for decades to come as the day a tribe of people, blinded by arrogance, let their guard down and became content and lazy, thinking that their enemies would never lay a glove on them for fear of retribution, set by their belief in their own past success and glories would be enough to intimidate others into backing down. Instead, they spent millions on an otherwise fruitless PR stunt to restore pride in their image and way of life, after their enemies became tired of what was otherwise all talk and no action.

It's also the anniversary of the World Trade Centre bombing.

And this is related to Mick Malthouse being appointed today?
