Quote:
It's been football's worst-kept secret, but the charade will end today. Mick Malthouse will officially sign off at 9.30am to coach Carlton for the next three years.

He will then front a press conference at 10am, revealing plans on how he hopes to lead the Blues to their 17th premiership.

It's understood he will honour his media contracts with Channel Seven and 3AW through the finals and won't officially start with the Blues until November 1 when the players return from their post-season holiday.

Thats about it.

It would also have been nice to have a look around at the best assistant coaches out there.

At some stage every great coach is untried.

I think some people are emotionally scarred by the club.

I am getting behind MM until his dementia kicks in.

I think the whole club is emotionally scarred from the loser mentality it built itself up on in the last decade.

Exactly...
So many people taking pot shots at the guy already and he hasnt even started coaching yet.

I love Ratts, but he had 5 years as our Coach and could only deliver us 1 finals win... ONE!
And in all the time he was in charge, we just couldnt fully shake the 'too Judd dependant' and 'downhill skiers' labels.
Im betting Mick will take care of this stuff quick fast.

He hs my full support!

The Pagan comparisons are bit unfair. Pagan found it difficult to adapt from from one decade to another, and also to another club without a Carey. MM has been successful across two clubs and 3 decades. Shows more adaptability and a progressive mind set. Given his experience at WC and Collingwood, I am keen to see how our player development fares under MM. Lets see how he goes.

The club was never in the position to give Pagan it's full support due to financial issues and black Friday.

The club never stood behind Ratten and gave him all the tools to do his job properly.

I suspect they will let Mick have full control over the footy department so I suspect this might turn out a little better than the previous two appointments.

If he can't get us some decent September action, then the whole club needs to be burnt to the ground and rebuilt.

At the very least the club should do some major renos now but I suspect the off field stuff will remain in a holding pattern until they decide how successful or otherwise mick has been.

the short term fix
This was going to happen a long time ago folks

MM can coach.
What our players need is to toughen up.
Even so I had a look at our list last night and it does lack a lot of depth.

We know that from this year although having a full time reserves coach and a Carlton Reserves team would help.

That hopefully will be the 2 things MM will bring to the club. Toughness and all the playing list being involved.

However I still reckon the list needs some rebuilding.

he should relieve himself of his media duties now IMO as there is a work to be done before trade period.
If your going to be on a mill a year

I think the bloke is too old and has had his day. I also think the board has once again made a rash decision trying to get a quick fix.
Football isnt just about winning games. Your club should operate with some sort of integrity as well.
We had success in the late 90s but the salary cap cheating placed a stench over our club that still remains. The fact we are viewed as cheats doesnt sit well with me.

And now we're hiring a bloke who IMHO doesnt know how to act with integrity. His actions in the Stephen Milne saga were a disgrace. He showed an inability to accept responsibility for his actions and blatantly lied to try to save his own arse.
The last week we have seen him claim zero responsibility for the sacking of the incumbent assistants (which is nonsense) and then we've seen him concoct a blatant lie about Alan Richardson to discredit the bloke.

I've had more than my say on this issue and I'll attempt to finish it at this post but for those who simply point to Malthouses games results, it goes further than that. This bloke is now representing our club and as a result, representing you as a supporter.
To think it will simply be about win/loss is underestimating the baggage that comes with this decision IMO.
Anyway, I've well and truly expressed my views and its time for me to move forward.

I'm thinking that's its not so bad after all.

It'll be interesting to see how all the players still listed approach the 'off season' with fitness. A lot of players will have so much to prove and with MM coming in everyone will be playing for their positions if not even a spoton the list.

I dare say most will be super disciplined and come back raring to go!

Excitement rising. This change is gonna be great!!!

Whoever is coach..... I will still love my blue boys and support through everything!
