Welcome Micky !

If he's the best, why was he sacked from his last job? Why arent there other clubs beating down his door?
Maybe they're not as smart as us hey? Or maybe the jokes on us.

If Collingwood are such geniuses why didn't they have an open "process" to find their new coach?

Or maybe they're thick as two planks and they just moved on a coach who might have won them another flag last year if it wasn't for their closed "process" that undermined him.

I honestly have no idea how Malthouse will go at Carlton but the extent of the negative reaction of some in here is absurd.

If you want a "process" then we need to get rid of the board because they struggle to run a chook raffle but if they stay then I'll take the Malthouse appointment over any sort of "process" they're likely to arrange.

It may not be perfect but I'd prefer to give the guy a go before pulling a knife on him.

The board's had a go so I'm happy to see the knives come out for them.

I've been thinking of a way to articulate my view on this, and here it is.

The "process" thing really depends on the situation. If there is a wide open field of candidates you do the process. If you know what you need and an "obvious" is currently out there - you get him. Thats what Freo did, that what a lot of others have done.
If you look at the success rate of the "process" its very mixed. A "process" is no "guarantee" and I would think the "head hunting" approach probably has a higher hit rate overall. I still think of how Bummers chose Knight ...... the "process" often comes down to how you "present" not necessary if you are the best choice in the current situation.

While I didn't think the club should have sacked Ratten (this year), they did commit to a process.
They decided we needed a proven Premiership coach.
Roos wasn't available, so we got Mick.

Well,

Juddy's got 3 years left in him so I can see where the club is coming from in recruiting Malthouse.

But.............. I still just can't stand the prick!!!!!

It's going to take us 3 years to get the right fit of players for Malthouse, let alone win 3 flags.

A man who is so successful and has acheived everything there is as a coach does not have to continue. Mick is here with his reputation on the line, risking all the success he has accomplised in the past. You can be damn sure that if he can't win a premisership with this team, no one can.

Like his personality or not, he has chosen our club as his opportunity for more glory. In time he too will understand what a great club we are and how important number 17 is.

I've never hated the guy, that's not my issue.

I just think he'd too old & too expensive.

What about that coach who promised us some finals action back at that Carlton Family Day in 2003?
