Apparently C Judd brought the game into disrepute with his tackle. I acknowledge there are many views in relation to this and don't want to debate the Judd issue, just want to focus on inconsistency and double standards of the AFL and why others associated with football haven't had such serious and damning findings handed down about them. - Bulldogs ruckman vilifies opponents mother; - Hawthorn player fails 3 drug tests - AFL process kicks in but surely this brings game into disrepute; - Adelaide player (2011) charged with assault following domestic dispute - club ban for 1 week, no AFL action; - Geelong player receives club suspension for remainder of the year following domestic dispute; There are countless more examples I haven't cited. Whilst some of the above received club imposed penalties this surely means less than an official AFL charge of bringing the game into disrepute. Judd's issue was serious, however, IMO no more serious than any of the above yet the AFL make public statements in respect to him resulting in a media frenzy. This week we now have; - Hawthorn coach abusing junior umpire, surely damages prospects of juniors taking up umpiring more than tweets; - Melbourne player committed to stand trial for serious assault charges in NT; The AFL now has the chance to repair its reputation and charge each of these guys with bringing the game into disrepute Is anyone in the media going to have the guts to raise this inconsistent approach by the AFL to serious issues or is it easier for the media to simply pursue the Judd issue without any critical thinking of broader AFL approach simply because it's Judd & Carlton? |

Mark Fraser SAID he brought the game into disrepute. Nobody found that to be true. It's just one clown's opinion. Everything else you say is valid though, particularly the blood on the jumper one. |

Jeff Gleeson for the AFL, in leading the evidence and the charge stated Judd was charged with "intentional serious misconduct ...... likely to bring the game into disrepute." The AFL led it's evidence on this basis and presented this view to the tribunal. It's now incumbent on the AFL to charge Clarkson too. |

I think if things continue in the same vein with the rest of the season there will be one hell of a PURGING at our club come seasons end and its just a question now as to whom is being purged -management coach players and Board |

Buddy Franklin has a history of less than stellar off-field behaviour and was caught doing 90km in a 50km zone last week - very little said about that. Can you imagine if it was Ratts who punched a hole in the wall then went and swore at some kids at a junior footy carnival? The entire club would be vilified yet its OK because it's Alistair Clarkson and that's "just how he is"? |

If Judd did it however .... I agree with Ocam's observations. The AFL is very inconsistent. Their one consistency seems to be that if the media make it a big deal, then they will too. Judd's big crime was being prominent. |

If I was a Hawks supporter and Clarkson got sanctioned for punching a wall I'd be absolutely livid. He should cop whatever the junior league tribunal gives him for that incident, but again, if the AFL stepped in i'd be pretty angry about it. Club imposed penalties for off field indiscretions are the norm, so examples of domestic violence and speeding should continue to be dealt with in this manner. On field issues are a different story, but i personally thought the suspension of Will Minson was incredibly soft and would again have been really disappointed if I was a bulldogs fan. The Jeremy Howe incident I thought was worthy of more than a 1 week suspension (early guilty plea means he's available to play this week), wiping blood on an opponent is a big no-no! However, the Buckley suspension in the past sets a precedent at 1 week. While I think the 4 week suspension for Judd is excessive and is largely a result of the AFL tyring to make an example that the chicken-wing tackle is not acceptable, I don't honestly believe too many of the other suspensions have been wrong, and wouldn't have expected them to be dealt with any differently even if they were Carlton players / officials. Equally, i think if we saw another high profile player use the chicken-wing tackle, they would have been suspended too. Overall, I don't feel too hard done by in this whole process. |
