Forgive me mods if there is already a similar thread but I couldn't find one.
In all the current gloom, the one thing that gives me a semblance of joy is the fact that out of the filth, scum and Blues, we have waited the longest since our last flag and still head the list of grand finals won.
Yes Collingwood may equal us this year, but I really hope they don't have any left in them for a long, long time.
As for Essendon*, they are credited with 2 of their flags because they finished on top at the end of seasons with no finals played.
Carlton overtook these clubs in the space of 20 years winning 7 flags to these two having none between 68 and 87.
Hopefully we have hit bottom this year and can go past them from this point on.
Go Blues.

I am more than sure we can, but may require some shrewed trading and drafting that many supporters may not like.

We need to go hard for Caddy & Boak. We need to go hard for a KPF.

I'd love to know how they can be snared, but I don't get paid top coin by the club to make these trades happen.

Well in pre season did expect Waite to play a few games with Big Sam supporting him and Big Cas on the wings. Didn't expect all three to go down all year.
KPF that can pinch hit in ruck is looming as a massive priority.

Aren't we hard against the cap? Boak, Cloak or anyone else would have to be a pipedream at this stage.

Our only avenue to upgrade this squad is through trades. Kreuzer and his degenerative hips might still have some value?

I wonder if there is any chance we could lure malthouse to play a bomber Thompson is to Herd role for Ratts? If we're sticking with Ratten, he needs a quality staff around him who can whisper plans B, C and D into his ear during the course of a game.

Maybe even enlighten him as to what a forward 50 structure might look like too.

Hard to say because I can only guesstimate what the wages are and whether larger contracts are front and back loaded. i.e Judds.
But looking at the above seems there is approx ~$1.2 mln freed up

Other than Tuohy and Yarran there's really no one else that can impact the cap ...not sure Tuohy $100-$150k maybe...Yazz $200-300k maybe. Maybe take out perhaps $300k odd from $1.2 mln and still leaves approx $800k-1 mln

The whole - who gets to 17 first- is interesting but not that important.

If we only compare ourselves to Melb based clubs we could fall into the trap of caring less when interstate clubs or Hawks and Geelong win.

Personally I believe this has contributed to some of our recent problems, but may help us short term.

Collingwood and the Bombers doing well puts the heat on the club and so might force change, but what we really need is to feel that heat every year, no matter who's going well.

Aren't his knee problems due to his hips having some abnormality? I remember reading/ hearing about it after he went down with his knee late last season.

fwiw ... He's playing like a guy with bad hips.

Think you need re-read your GF history. Specifically the years 1984 and 1985.

Other than that, the thought of the Pies joining us on 16 has me bothered too. The thought that someone else could get to 17 before us equally so.

Our superior GF record has been one of the shining lights to help me through the dark times.

Yep, absolutely right. my oversight. I must have repressed these from my memory.
They have both won one since our last and the thing that frustrates me is that right now, they appear closer to their next than we do.

We, Carlton supporters are like a collective of old Greek Men, convincing themselves that the Greek Empire is comparable to Modern America or Upcoming China......OUR TIME IS FINISHED. WE ARE NOT ON THE SAME LEVEL AS COLLINGWOOD AND Essendon*. THEY HAVE AN ORGANISATIONAL PLATFORM THAT CAN DELIVER SUSTAINED SUCCESS AND DELIVER PREMIERSHIP 17. Meanwhile we are still building out of stone and celebrating the discovery of philosophy and the mass production of sun dials.

IF WE HUMBLY FACED OUR PREDICAMENT AND CONFRONTED THE HARDWORK AHEAD OF US LIKE A DEVELOPING CLUB (GWS OR GOLDCOAST), WE MIGHT GET SOMEWHERE

Roman Empire... Greek Empire will be back!!!

Greek Empire lasted longer than the American one ever will...

Yeah but we have to forget what we achieved in the past and begin the rebuild as if we are a start up club... IMHO

Our legacy is now our achilles heel
