Post subject:  Time for our players to grow the f--- up

I think Carlton has been cruelled by injuries this year, and I think our depth has been massively overstated.

I think the selection of our team is often rubbish, and that Ratts plays his mates, and Sticks plays his mates. It's old fashioned and it's rubbish.

I think Ratts deserves the heat, because our development is sub-par, and he seems caught in the headlights in matches. Our coaches should be smart, and I'm not convinced.

But most of all I think our players need to grow the f--- up. I'm sick of them. Sick of them smiling in training photos. Sick of their tweeting bullshit. Sick of them acting like kids.

The Carlton Football Club I love is tough and hard and ruthless. It is focused on the job at hand. It wins matches where it's hard. It's focused on finals, and winning finals. It does not tweet. It only allows silly hairstyles if you're Tom Alvin or have a mullet like Paul Meldrum. In other words, you can have the hair if you don't take a backward step.

Bryce Gibbs, have a good flowering look at yourself mate. You're filled to the brim with talent, and our club is against the wall. And I want to see you dive on the f---ing ball.

And I want to see your mates follow your example. FFS!!!!!!!!! Enough.

We're the Carlton Navy Blues. And I am sick of you kids. Grow up. Tough up. Hit the ball and the man. And take some heat off your coach.

Can't disagree with much of that.

Our team has mental weaknesses that need to be sorted before we can seriously have a crack at a flag.

well said, hard to support most of these blokes, last Friday I struggled to come up with 6 players that were really putting in

I agree with everything you have said. CFC needs a complete attitude adjustment. We have not been hard and ruthless for years. As someone who has coached footy, it annoys me as a supporter watching some of the softness that appears to have spread throughout the club and team.

Clearly CFC has on and off field issues.

As a player Ratts would have been great to coach - he put his head over the bl@@dy ball. As a coach he does not seem to be instilling that same attitude. Robbo puts his head over the ball, Judd puts his head over the ball, as does Simmo. Many others ( you have named the most annoying candidate, but there are others playing the same way ) are sweating off waiting for something to happen. What is going on between the ears?

I am a supporter of Gibbs but like many, I think he is developing some really bad habits. Is it the coach? The players? Somewhere this whole attitude has to change.

Attitude is a small thing that makes a big difference!

The players remind me of one of my kids, typical Y generation want to have it all but don't want to work for it.

Agreed.
And this is largely why i haven't gotten 100% behind the talk of 'Sacking Ratts' as the players too need to take a slice of the responsibility!

This year (and previous years too) I've seen the likes of Yazz, Russell, Gibbs, Thornton, McLean, plus a handfull of others act like sookie little bitches when things don't go their way.

Suck it up and move on. Create a new contest rather than sulking over the last failed one. Nobody's gonna run out on the field and give you a hug and say "There there, everything will be ok!"

Players like Robbo and Simmo should be praised. Sure, at times, their disposal might be off or they got beaten one on one........... whatever.......... you can be guaranteed that the next time the ball comes their way they will throw their bodies at it like a solider on a grenade!

To a few players on our list i say this.................. Grow a pair and act like men............. otherwise bugger off!

I agree CFC players need to show more maturity and professionalism,
more desire and desperation to perform their best every game, more respect to supporters and club.
Limitaions through injuries aside , let's show some pride smash the pies or at least have a real go at it would be a good start.

When was the last time a genuine top 15 player at the club was dropped for not doing the hard things like putting your head over the ball.

There was a time when if you didn't go when it was your turn you'd be made an example of at the selection table the following week.

Haven't seen that for a while.

When Betts got polaxed the other night was an indication of the type of players we have in the team

To many nice guys I'm afraid the only bloke that had a go at him was Simpson - one of our little blokes
Walker was two feet away and did nothing

Senior coach has had 5 years with the group. It's his team. He's developed it. If they're not playing the way he wants them to, then the fault is entirely his.

That's the way it works. In football and in business.

Made an example of at training too.

Remember a few years ago they had a HTFU award at Visy... I guess they wouldn't have enough to hand out at the current minute.

Unfair on Gibbs.

The "team' is non existent, to single out one guy in a team full of blokes who don't play for each other is just wrong.

Mental weakness comes from
* lack of belief in the system
* knowing your spot is safe matter how poor you play
* lack of respect for the coach
* cofusion with your role and responsibility on match day
* lack of onfield leadership

It's not all Ratts' fault but as Synbad has stated, this structure has all of Ratts' imprimatur on it. He's had the side for 5 years. The buck stops with Ratts....like it or not

Did anyone hear Bob Murphy on AFL360 last night talking about the aftermath of their Essendon* loss?

I'll start by acknowledging that McCartney is only half a season into his tenure, and hasn't had 5 years like Ratts but...

Murphy spoke very confidently about knowing the long-term journey the coach wants to take them and while the loss and their effort was poor on the weekend he knows the club us heading in the right direction. He was genuine in his support for the coach and demonstrated he had a clear understanding of his instructions.

Can't say I've heard anything similar from our players, much less the coach.

Didn't you listen last year?, our guy's said "Yeah, Ratts is coaching better these day's" and that was only after 4 years.

It's the same, isn't it.............isn't it? :|

Betts, Bower, Curnow, Garlett, Gibbs, Hampson, Jamison, Judd, Lucas, McLean, Murphy, Russell, Thornton, Waite, Walker, Yarran.

Has a team ever had so many players in its best 25 with such a collectively poor level of psychological conditioning, and so many questions over whether winning a premiership is their #1 priority in their life currently?

You can talk about Ratts and all the other knob jockeys in the front offices all you like... werent they the same blokes that were there when we played Collingwood round 3, whats changed ?
The thing that stood out to me that game was, one was Zac Tuohy head first and body between him and the pies player out on the wing which won us a key contest... and Armfield doing the same thing... hard at the ball. Now no one can argue that these blokes are our most skilled or talented in our team, but they were desperate and WANTED TO WIN!
The players all need to take it upon themselves to beat their man and attack each contest with ferocity we can win. They are good but nothing beats the want to win and the willingness to do whatever is required
No better time to stand up than to beat our arch rival when no one rates us
Come on Blue boys!!!
