....should be our next coach. Yet there's 40 pages on Malthouse and half a dozen on Roos, and hardly no mention of the coach of the current premiership favourites.

Right age, and has a track record of delivering in areas we lack - developing a team ethos, bringing about a hard edge and aggression to the approach on the football (and of course the man), and being able to cover injuries/bringing new players into the team.

Probably would have a better chance of moulding our current list into his unsociable football approach, than getting our list to play a defensive Roos game plan.

Yes there are issues - he's contracted to Hawthorn till end of 2014, but I think healthy compensation to the Hawks wouldn't go astray in releasing him. Would he want to come to us? Yes, I think so if they win the flag this year. Won 2 flags there, is there much else to achieve? Our best chance of getting him would have been had Kennett stayed on as president also...

I'd be interested to hear the opinion from those who don't rate him, as opposed to holding a petty grudge over the Battle of Britain or Fev stuck on 99....

He has easily the most talented list in the AFL and they have underperformed IMO.
I dont rate him as highly as you do.

Why would Hawthorn let him go
Why would he want to leave Hawthorn

Probably should have won the flag last year, had the same level of KP injuries that we currently do, got within a kick of beating Collingwood. I rate that he's continually shifted tactics throughout his tenure there, and innovated, rather than copied ala half the competition following the flood/press movements.

Best 22, yes, easily. Reckon their list falls away a bit after that, but geez does he get the most out of it.

Need to run this past Ian Aitken.

If we offered a shitload of coin to them in compensation to release him from the contract and gave them some favourable first dibs on players of interest, I reckon they'd look at it. Hard to tell whether it was a Kennett thing or not, but I always get the feeling they're still not sold on him, that they have the same insider/boys club thing we do at times, and will always look to find a Hawthorn person who can do the job instead.

Why would he want to leave Hawthorn? Reckon he'd be happy with 2 flags there, and would be the type that would seek out a new challenge. Not like he took over the Hawks from an easy situation either.

This isn't the EPL. That's illegal. Good matchday coach. But not for Carlton.

He has instigated 2 distinct gameplans ...
The cluster and now the thirty foot short pass through zones game.

Only illegal if we formally approach him first, rather than putting offers to the club directly. I doubt they'd take it, but hey - due diligence and all that....

I think he is a great coach, but think he would struggle to make an immediate impact

Regardless wont happen

The other aspect of the argument to consider is this also - we're not seeing the back of Kernahan, Brown, Gleeson etc. for a while, they're there until they decide to bugger off to Percy's full time.

You want a coach that not only isn't at the beck and call of these blokes, but someone with proven experience in a similar scenario, who can cut through the bullshit and politics to achieve the desired outcome.

Clarkson, having overcome the Hawthorn favourites trying to install Ayres ahead of him in '04 then the push for the return of Lethal to Waverley in '09 has this in spades.

If he can deal with Kennett, Dunstall and Dermott on a regular basis, I doubt he'd have any issue with Sticks..

I've got no problem with the filthy sniping piece of shit coaching us, but he won't.

Kennetts gone so hell stay till he wants to leave.

Have you spoken to your brother in law about this, Rhino?

Petty? I'll never forget it!

''I personally think Clarkson is a very angry, small man. He always has been and a leopard's not going to change its spots.

''What he did (in the London game) was as low an act as possible.''

Ian Aitken 2009

"He said he encountered Clarkson in a hotel lift the day after the Battle Of Britain game, but he did not apologise then and hasn't since"

We are never that desperate! I'll support GWS if he coaches Carlton because it means our culture is dead.
