I'm concerned that bringing in a new coach may not be sufficient to reset the club in the direction needed to become a great club again. For example, Malthouse alone won't make the club as effective as Collingwood. I believe we need an independent review of the club, including all aspects of the football department, management and board, but why not have it NOW?

Geelong did it mid-2006. I believe other teams have.

If they aren't going to sack Ratts in the next few weeks, Andy McKay needs to take some control, tell Ratts that injured players do not play - Kreuz, Jamo, Yarran, Judd if necessary. Set up a professional independent review that can assess the dysfunction at the club which reports to the....oh shit that's right it would report to the board, of which Sticks is the chair.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether, or how, such a review can be effective when the top leadership is in question? A respected and appropriate business leader with mandate to make recommendations (including on the functionality and quality of the board) to the entire board? How can that potential conflict be averted? This isn't my area, but are there examples of it working?

Review by non-Carlton people please.

Parko and Walls can stay away.

Absolutely. But let's look beyond just the football department this time.

Before a review happens I want them all locked up in a room with a mediator and have a H2H where all the shit and piss comes out.

I don't think you can, the board has its process of election.

Not sure why this needs a separate thread. But I would hire Malthouse to do the review. He did set up 2 very successful teams and knows what it takes.

first there needs to be a boardroom coup - then they're free to implement an independent review

this needs to happen now so a new structure can be in place by trade week and draft time - no time to waste !!!

A review of any significance would need to be instigated by and answerable to the board.

Do not for a moment think that board members, including Sticks, don't love the club. It's easy for us on TC to call for immediate change - there are multiple stakeholders in the club, we can't click our fingers sack a coach and expect all will be well.

At present we are failing miserably but once a genuine review is completed corrective decisions will be implemented. Carlton has many very successful business people associated with it - the wheel will turn.

Ratts is a Carlton champion, he is not succeeding, but don't tear into him as if he doesnt want the best for the club simply because he's failing. The proper time will come when he and the board agree it's over - allow him the dignity to leave with grace.

When the time comes a full review will be undertaken, it just doesn't have to happen in public for all the world to see.

I have absolutely no problem with that at all. You speak perfect sense.

It's just that I have little faith in Kernahan, Gleeson, et al to manage this review.

if his name was knights do we treat it different?

and everyone knows how the club is no need to hide it.

this is the time for the club to come clean.

we are having difficulty believing in this club and needs to prove integrity!

it has very little.

Just a question - if there is a review and in chance happenstance the extrenal audit was found not be your liking and along the lines of injuries etc - would you accept it?

hmm, I like what you say about Ratts, but not so much that we should just trust the wisdom of the board to resolve this. If we would like some changes with the board and President for instance...how can that happen if they review themselves?

Also, apparently Sheehan thinks Gavin Brown will be interim coach. Would've thought Richardson would be the obvious choice.

In any case, it looks like change may be about to happen one way or another.

I never thought I'd say it DS, but I'd be ok with that. Start the new process.
We have gone 1 step back, and now it's time for 2 steps forward.

That's my point - can an effective review be done if the board itself lacks wisdom, judgement, objectivity and is itself in question?

Post subject:  Re: Time for a club-wide review

the board lacks integrity.
Too many heads on it and they dont all want to be seen as stupid .
Collective stuidity is pretty bad.. cos the whole point of a group is to cancel each others malakies out whilst bringing in fresh indinvidual ideas

There is no possible way a review will vindicate them for the multiple errors under their watch.

So whatever review will come to be.. if any ... it will be window dressing only

So the board needs to be overhauled before any serious review? So no serious review in 2012 then?!

Anyone else notice Aaron Joseph say "We have a few things set in place now that will help us moving forward" after coming out of the post-game meeting? Mentioned it twice. Second time referred to 'a thing' i.e. singular.

I hope this means players who are injured will be out, and new players will come in for the rest of the season or something similar.

I find it hard to imagine Joseph speaking cryptically,or sending subliminal messages.
