:-D meh.

c'mon doc, if he really wanted to, the boys and Tami could stay up there til HSC is done...or they could support his wishes and give up a little...
I'm saying if he really wanted it...it would probably happen.
All life is change. Tami should understand that. :-)

I'm probably of the opinion that if some of you read this book - you'd want Paul Roos as far away from the Carlton Football Club as possible. I share their philosophy (to a degree) having read the book, but I have serious reservations about Paul Roos as senior coach with the current culture emanating from the club.

It's not his decision to make, but the whole family's...and i think you'd find he'd probably be outvoted 3-1.

Quote:
Upon taking the Swans job, Roos courageously made it clear that his family was number one, a philosophy that extends throughout the club, creating a warm and friendly culture. "We have a policy of embracing the families of the players... I believe that if you're happy in your family life, then you're going to be more productive on the paddock and as a team member." An example of this culture is seeing players' kids in the locker room after a game or a debutant's family being flown interstate to see their son's first game. When talking about priorities, Roos puts family first, then job, "then comes in no particular order, my friends, my quality of life, giving back to the community, travelling and keeping fit."

Like many others, stress is a major stumbling block in today's society, imposing constraints on families. In combating this, Roos' solution is to spend more time with his family-not less-gaining strength from their support and love, putting work problems into perspective. "To be successful at work, sometimes you have to get away from work," Roos writes.

I have visions of Roosy and his boys with Gerard Healy in tow going for a surf down at Gunnamatta Back Beach before philosophizing over a bottle of Château Vieux Pourret while his assistants go the 'G to analyse next weeks' opponents. He's far from lazy - he just has a completely different mindset from the likes of Brett Ratten.

Forget it.
The politics at Carlton would chew this guy up and spit him out.

Is it any wonder that the relatively new and wealthy interstate clubs have done well since entering the competition (WCE, Syd, Adel) - they don't have the history/politics/egos and generally just get on with the job.

Yes Doc, the food is exceptionally good.

Well they only use the best produce available

On a serious note

Dean Laidley scenario possible with paul performing similar role to rocket. Any chance?

..no chance.. ..Roos is far too smart, he'd smell the stench of 'the carlton way' and wouldn't entangle himself in the muck..

..Roos is a huge part of the swans revival, on and off field, since being a part of the club.. ..looking at how that club conducts itself, both on and off field.. ..and then taking a look at us.. ..and you can see why this isn't plausible..

Neither for nor against their philosophy Doc.
Just haven't wanted Roosy's former game style for us.

also, as spoken of by others, we want someone dedicated and hungry for the job.

I don't think Paul and Tami are the only couple who put family first. It's just that American style of speaking loudly about what you do.

We need someone with a black heart. Someone with a fair degree of the C-Word in him. Someone who'll tell Bear Gleeson and the board to GAGF when it comes to football matters. Someone who actually would enjoy puncturing egos and kicking heads, and moulding the team his way.

That someone most definitely isn't Paul Roos. Carlton isn't made for Paul and Tami's style of leadership.

With a whole new setup at Carlton, he'd be great. Right now, he wouldn't fit and he'd know that himself. Money's not the object, he's got enough money.

D. Pagan had plenty of C-word in him. In fact, he was an almighty "C U Next Tuesday".

Does not mean you can coach tho.

Does anyone think Leigh Matthews would still coach? Has he been out too long?

Two AFL premierships plus a heap of GF wins at development level says he could coach. Of course you need more than mongrel. But at our club right now, a nice guy isn't going to win.

I'm not sure we need a coach with c!@# in him - we need a coach who can relate to our players and comprehend his philosophy/vision.

Wasn't pagan undermined at the board level constantly? He'd give recommendations on what needs to happen and how, only to be refused.

Mathieson calls it the boys club

I reckon Scott Burns might fit that criteria.

He could wear Yoga pants at GWS' place. Perfect. I'd keep him away from the kitchenware, but he's pretty good with the feng shui stuff though.
