Missing Setanta.

Could take a mark and was desperate at ground level.

I have noticed that when players don't have possession that we basically just stand around and wait for the ball to come to them rather than leading up and creating options. Sick of us bombing to contested marks on the wing, or anywhere for that matter, because we are so rubbish at it.

..pretty much what we already know.. ..and if it seems that it's now so obvious across the general public it boggles the mind why we don't seriously overhaul our fwd structures [or even get somne!!]..

Ratten said in presser not injured mids that are hurting structures, its casboult and rowe out injured as the club banked on them playing this yr.

Pity Ratts didn't rate Setanta.

Popular, hard working, and seemed to be a good if erratic forward.

It will take a major shift for us to change our forward structure. IMO it starts from the way we move the ball forward from the backline or from stoppages. Teams are stopping us from moving it the way we want and therefore dont really enter the 50 in a manner that we would prefer.

I also think teams are more happy to allow us to enter our 50 than than they would most other teams. Its part of the strategy to beat us and i reckon that distorts the stats. Rebounding against us if we dont time our entry is easy and scoring from that rebound even more as we race to get a press in place. So teams put pressure on our ball carrying while they push a men back. We eventually rush it inside 50 (usually a shallow entry) then the opposition with men back pinch it and rebound to an open forward line as we try to press against a shallow entry.

That is why i feel we now often hold it up and then kick to a pocket. We dont have the talent at the moment to do it any other way IMO.

Need to find new ways to get the ball forward now with congested stoppages killing old plans. This will get our forward line playing better.

The cats played a bit more open than most and we did move the ball better. We got the shots but stuffed them up.

Its not about the players, we have the players if we use the game style that suits.

Why Walker isn't in the forward line astounds me.

Play Henderson as at the hardworking lead up forward and have Walker and Betts leading up from the square. The resting ruck man can stay in the square.

When under pressure you go long to the square where the ruck man make a contest other wise control the ball, wait for created space and allow more mobile players to lead into space. This will also allow for a much better defensive forward set up.

The problem with this free flowing, faced paced style of play the balls comes in from anywhere at any pace and its a lottery allowing good defences to structure up and run the ball out.

You can't tell me a forward line of:

HF: Gibbs Henderson Garlett
F: Betts Walker Kruezer

couldn't kick enough goals if used properly?

We kick the ball on betts head, and all our forwards actually. Waiting for the moment we kick it in front of a leading forward. Waiting for years actually.

Also having all the ruck men in the forward line does not help forward pressure.

We don't have the forward line pressure we had in the first 3 games.

Last week against Geelong was case in point, so many Geelong easy goals from the quick turn overs.

We just don't work hard enough......

Wow, seems a bit like wishful thinking in regards to Cas and Rowe for season 2012...

Pity he gets injured just as much as Waite. Can't build teams around blokes that are not durable.
Will play 1 game for the 2012 season.

Pressers are becoming more and more focussed on the negative. Getting a bit tired of reasons why not. Not only that the reasons are changing every week.

Most were worried that that forward line wouldnt cut it come finals time when teams that win seem to have big mothers inside 50 as pushing the ball forward to contests in finals heat is the go.
We used Walker as one of the talls last year during the season but the MC would have been worried that wouldnt stand up in finals.

For the first 3 rounds we got away with Walker not being there so they thought we could use him higher up the ground. Then midfielders went down, Simpson started getting tagged out of games and we lacked onballers for rotations so the decision to play Walker up the ground had merit.

Not for me. His disposal is too poor up the ground to be any bonus. His best season was last year. We were trying to trade him prior to that. Just not logical.

There is a strategy in football today which involves getting as many people on the ball as possible. If you don't have enough players around the ball then your opposition wins possession through weight of numbers. If you are down on quality midfielders then this problem is exagerated. Thats why Walker is playing up the ground. When players like Carrazzo and Scotland come into the team I think you will find that Walker will return to the goal square. Its pretty simple really ... does not take a lot of analysis.
