Really bg? But if we play there, we'll only fit in half the crowd, and lose money. Also, we don't play as well there. and... it could be a bad omen, not starting the year at the G don't you think? |

Is Vlad serious? The game regularly gets over 60K at the G. |

Where does he anticipate the 20k-30k people who would otherwise be sitting in a seat at the MCG fitting at Etihad? |

Carlton will need compensation of at least $1.5 MLN to move to Etihad. Will win it in the courts too. |

It's not hard to imagine a record breaking crowd at the g either, considering how well the Tiges are doing. They will want their chance to maul us in front of as many people as possible. |

AD was on radio this morning and when asked about this his response was that next year the first round is over the Easter break. Apparently there is a contract that Brisbane has to play on the Thursday before Good Friday. The only way that Richmond and Carlton can play on the Thursday is the week before Easter and the MCG wont be available due to the cricket. |

I said will win it in courts not will take them to court. Depends what the terms of agreement with AFL are; the consequential damages are too severe to let is slip by the wayside. |

Why can't Brisbane play someone at the GABBA and Carlton play Richmond at the MCG on the Thursday before Good Friday? |

Why can't Brisbane play someone at the GABBA and Carlton play Richmond at the MCG on the Thursday before Good Friday? He wants to use the opportunity to start early, so they can squeeze 2 byes into the year. I'm thinking Freo V North at Etihard will do nicely. We can wait . |

Why can't Brisbane play someone at the GABBA and Carlton play Richmond at the MCG on the Thursday before Good Friday? Because it is all about TV rights, this would be the simple solution otherwise. Money rules the FIXture. |

It's not really about Carlton and Richmond...we just happen to be the ones whom the chosen argument affects...it's more about the AFL vs the MCC and their age-old arguments. Cricket has exclusive use of the MCG between October 1 and March 31 under the terms of the deal with the MCC - that has been set in stone for a long time - Demetriou wants some compromise on that and the MCC view this as the AFL muscling in on 'their' turf. So Demetriou isn't the bad guy here. He wants that game played at the MCG. But he's playing politics and has now taken the discussion out of the boardroom and onto the street. Now the likes of Kernahan, Swann and Brendan Gale tell their respective supporters whom then call talkback radio and sports writers have something to write about even though they somehow stuff up the story. For the AFL boss, it's going perfectly to plan. Even though he's pissing off the MCC. This could drag on a while, but the game won't be played at Etihad. Either it's played at the MCG on the date Demetriou wants, or it's played at the MCG on the date Demetriou doesn't want. |

yes, Doc, but if he doesn't get the date he wants, he's going to gun hard for 2 teams at Etihard a week earlier. I know he is trying it on, but I was surprised no one had mentioned it, and thought I may as well. it's going to go on for awhile you would think. I hate the thought of the season not starting at the G. it's like climbing Everest without putting your prayers up to the mountain goddess. Things could unravel. You've got to have the romance left in the game. Starting with the Gabba, and E.Hard, no matter who plays there, is just ..well...it's no good. |

This is where we join forces with the Tiges and say @#$%&! YOU Afl!! If you want to do that, give us Good Friday instead and let Port v Freo kick off the season. |
