I would urge everyone to view this. It aired the other night, and Mike talks about everything in here from his early years, premiership success, living with Leo Brooks, the 'Captain's Chronicles' http://bit.ly/KMQmKt and his insight into the game, media and a member of the AFL Commission.

To the posters who will respond with 'Let's get Mike back to the club as President'...don't be stupid. There is no reason you could give Mike Fitzpatrick to do such a thing. Those days are long gone. He's already been a director of the club. He's now Chairman of the AFL. Take a look at his CV. He's never gone backwards - only forward. He might be 60 next January, but I don't think retirement would be in his mind just yet. Being President of Carlton would suit the retired Mike Fitzpatrick...I just can't see him retiring.

Anyway...brilliant interview. Kudos to Eddie McGuire.

The only way he would do it is like Richard Pratt did it at the end of his career or like a Jeff Kennett did it when he had nothing better to do.

Clearly Mike Fitzpatrick has plenty of better things to do in his life.

You also have to wonder if it's allowed. e.g I worked on a project for the State Government for 12 months and one of the conditions placed on me was that I was not allowed to work for Tattersell's or Tabcorp for a period of 5 years after my leaving date. While there'd be no way you'd ever do the wrong thing - there's a conflict of interest that would be impossible to remove yourself from.

I can list 6 clubs who wouldn't like it...even though they'd have nothing against the man himself.

I doubt it. Many AFL staff end up on club payrolls eg Dale Holmes, Andrew McKay.
The only difference I'd see is that he'd have access to a lot of confidential data from other clubs, so then again, maybe

Looks like it is allowed. Geelong's President, Colin Carter served on the AFL Commission from 1993-2008. He was a Director at Geelong prior to being appointed to the AFL Commission in 1993 and became a Geelong Director again in 2008 after finishing on the Commission. He took over the Presidency from Frank Costa in 2011.

Well there you go...that's very interesting. Thanks DLC. Well then...what are we waiting for? 'Operation Get Fitzpatrick'

Thing is...how do you get him off the Commission? Photos?

I'd love to read the Fitzpatrick Diaries. Hadn't heard of it before...

The link to some excerpts is in my first post above. I got hold of it in its entirety a couple of years ago, but I'm afraid I'm not allowed to reproduce it on here.

He would have to feel that the club needs severe help and he is the only one that could do the job. So unlikely I would think.

Maybe he could do a Richard Branson.

Breanson's had huge success in franchising his name, his personality, his acumen and his brand attributes to various businesses.

So Fitzy could be our President, but he just sticks a proxy in his place to do the actual work stuff.

Donald Trump has done the same over the last decade.

Stupid idea, but desperate times

The AFL think that the Kangas are going so well (see demetrio-VLAD this morning) Mike should takeover as CEO of the Kangas they have even offered them help to find one
Could be just the role for Mike in downsizing his business activities :smoking:

As I recall the "Fitzpatrick Diaries" were actually quite mundane - not unlike some twitter postings of current day players eg. Went to milk bar and bought the paper etc. Not many insights as I recall.

Didnt Fitzy and Collo bend us over in the Telstra Dome deal.. would'nt the funds have been more beneficial if we built Princes into a modern 40k capacity stadium with under ground parking? He only thinks for himself.

Yes of course. And why didnt we build a Krispy Kreme in the foyer as well?
We were so flushed with funds at the time, anything was possible.
