Post subject:  R9: Pros & Cons

Pros
- 58pt margin
- Mitch Robinson's effort throughout entire game
- Brock McLean did enough to keep his spot (but will he?)
- Hammer has learnt how to hold onto his marks
- We were only playing Melbourne
- At least managed to run out the game better than them

Cons
- Intensity not good enough
- Hardness at the ball/contest not good enough
- Struggled to maintain a full quarter effort, much less a four quarter effort
- Such a scrappy, lifeless and uninspiring game of football

Noway Synbad can help himself

Post subject:  Re: R9: Pros & Cons

Pros
A win, thanks very much
A few boys flying the flag in the thick of it
Warnock back
McLean doing enough to earn himself a run of games.
Bootsma getting games into
Robbo throwing himself at it & setting an example
Juddy showing a bit of leadership
Eddie playing himself back into a little bit of form

Cons
Still too many players letting others do the hard work for them
Gibbs always seems to go about it at 75% - come on Gibbsy show us what you're made of
Forward 50 entries still very much kick & hope
Fumbling the ball in the clinches (improved dramatically in Q4)
Short passes that bounce 2 metres in front of their target!!!!!
Garlett - brilliant player when the luck falls his way but does not work hard enough when it's not falling for him

Pro's:

A win
Warnock in ruck
Collins very good
Ellard filling Carrots role
McLean doing okay
Bootsma, something to be excited about.
Robbo on the ball. Still can't work out why he played as defensive fwd last week?
Henderson, Murphy, Carrazzo, Waite, Yarran, Laidler, Duigan? would really improve that side

Cons:

Crap game
Not effort at start. Bad sign
3 ruckman will not work especially in finals
Collins injury????
AJ is not a BP
Garlett really out of form. Seems to stay wide a lot.
Gibbs just seems to be second guessing himself. Not playing on instinct

Post subject:  Re: R9: Pros & Cons

Pros
- Walker playing as onballer showed a bit. Could be handy. He goes onball and we can then set up a more traditional forward structure with Henda and Waite working inside fwd 50.
- Touhy back in a bit of form
- Bootsma looks like a player of the future.
- Less fear when the ball hits the ground in defensive 50 with a better mix of talls and smalls.
- Hampsons marking.
- Bobby Warnocks game.
-Curnow, Ellard and Brock keeping it tight at the clearances.

Cons
Curnow, Ellard and Brock all playing at once left us open on the counter.
The form of Garlett. Needs to clear his head and get back to basics.
The form of the team and injuries. Hopefully things improve and we get some confidence , players back and form as the season progresses.

Cons.

A lot of B graders.

Pros

If the Tigers can thrash the Hawks with a team containing King, Nahas, and Tuck then I suppose we may win some big games.

Con: Our dead beat supporters who show up to games and abuse certain Carlton players as if they have a target on their back.

Sick of this shit, makes me hate sitting in the members section. You could actually see Paul Bowers confidence in his own ability completely disappear after a few tough minutes of football for him all because the Carlton 'faithful' were giving it to him.

Absolute filth supporters can go support Essendon*.

Cons:

Driving to the MCG when most of the car parks are closed due to rain :banghead:

Agree, stuff like that is awful to witness and about the only positive of living interstate and not able to get to many games.

I don't mind one or two cries of frustration towards a player if he's made a genuine mistake, but some of the active barracking against players can be terrible.

Post subject:  Re: R9: Pros & Cons

Cons:

Melbourne are the worst football team in my lifetime. At least the Gold Coast and GWS have not history as an excuse.

No form can be measured from today's result, Melbourne are just that bad.

Squid didn't play any footy this week.

Buckley didn't play any footy this week.

Post subject:  Re: R9: Pros & Cons

Pros..................full credit Brock McLean, ripper game.Ditto Dave Ellard.Andy Walker great work in the guts.Gotta be played there more often if we are to be a threat. He's got size and strength. Can play inside and outside.A real headache for the opposition when he is on song.Besides,he goes stale and tends to drift out when he is down forward to long.He can still jag a goal when onballing.
Cons..................whats with this tipping it on Eddie and Jeffs head, just crazy. For effsake, kick it high to the big guys and Eddie and Jeff stay on the ground. The three big guys will work only if the little guys crumb.

A few people have mentioned a switch to half back for Garlett. Not a bad idea i reckon.
We have about 5 players in career worst form at the moment, including Gibbs who is becoming the Ian Baker Finch of football. (sorry Club). He could do with a mentor such as Peter Dean, Adrian Hickmont or Dean Rice.
