http://www.heraldsun.com.au/afl/more-news/bryce-gibbs-suddenly-struggling-for-impact/story-e6frf9jf-1226358183879 Quote: Another leading analyst, North Melbourne premiership player David King, said: "Gibbs is a mystery, isn't he. I still think he's an elite player, but we just don't know where it is going to be.
"I think he can be an elite half-back flanker, ![]() King said he was waiting for Gibbs to blossom into a regular game-breaker. |

Sorry, but Mark Maclure is the Neil Harvey of the AFL. I've never heard a commentator who gets it so wrong consistently but keeps his job. He's employed for his ability to create controversy. Grain of salt stuff. |

nothing article Gibbs being called elite by King sums it up. It aint there yet, may never get there. I'm actually bemused at where Gibbs is at. He finished last year beautifully but has had an indifferent start to the year. It's only early so I am not going to write him off at this stage. His confidence looks shot, so as others have suggested, settle him in a position and ask to perform a specific role. I don't want him drifting around the park with minimal impact. |

He has to play forward of center. He's to soft for on the ball. |

To me he looks disinterested. I think Murphy looks a little like that as well. I wonder why? I am staggered as they want to play finals, but they dont understand what it takes to get there. If you follow the boys on twitter, all they care about is their hair and making fun of eachother. Absolutely no hurt whatsoever when they lose. Robbo did say how upset he was by the Essenscum loss, but the others, nothing. Its all between the ears, and work ethic. Which we dont have any since the Collingwood game. This is very upsetting to me. |

The thing that really frightens me is that Gibbs doesn't seem to be half the player he was before he was drafted. Maybe people are right when they say that Pagan damaged him by shoving him at full back in his early years. I wouldn't know where to play him. Ideally, I'd love him as that Hodge type that runs off half back but he's even struggled in that role. Perhaps it would be best for him to be our #1 tagger each week? It's sad, cause Gibbs is an amazing talent and should be better. P.S. Don't listen to a word that David King says. He's an absolute knob-jockey! I've won so much money this year doing the exact opposite of what he says. He's jumped back off Carlton now after saying we wont make finals / Richmond Brisbane and Collingwood will thump us! |

Some respect for the opposition who have worked how to strangle our midfield wouldn't go astray. Reactionary comments. Swan was fat and past it after we beat the Pies. I love legends like Walls and Maclure, but old players and coaches have been out of the game for too long. Matthews isn't on the money like Malthouse. Imagine the headlines if they took to Twitter and said how they hurt they were. All the media leeches who stalk players by waiting for them to slip up and tweet something controversial wouldn't have to do any real journalism. |

..it's the role down back.. ..quite frankly it's not a role for him, his 'game style' doesn't match up with what ppl want from him down there [Hodge '08 finals style].. ..his versatility and variety of roles played for us have clouded ppl's opinions i believe.. ..his best position [by far his best] is as a half forward.. ....especially these days with all the open space a smart player can get to work in.. |

I was a frustrated Gibbs watcher for a long time, but he's been very good for a long period now. |

Regardless of how fair the comments are, I've got to admit I'm glad some of our players are now starting to get some media pressure applied. They've received enough praise over recent years. And from the outside, it's looked like they've played like they're satisfied with the plaudits. I want our players to 'hurt' more and play 'angry'. |

It was a cop out to shift Murphy forward and not ask him to work hard for the team in the centre. Marc can't play forward. Too poor overhead. Murphy is built for the centre, but he was chasing outside ball against Saints. Had less impact and showed less desire than Ellard who only played half a game. |

Agree, this might be a little kick in the behind he needs. |

Title should read whole team struggling for impact rather than isolating one person |

You follow the tweets of a bunch young men who probably spent their high-school years focussing more on football than they did academics, and you're somehow disappointed that their tweets are full of mindless trivialities and stupid piss-taking?? What do you expect? Gibbs and Murphy to tweet, haiku-like, perfect and incisive analysis of the state of the game? They're young, highly paid football players, big fish in a small pond, who enjoy fame and money due to the fact that they can play footy extremely well. If you're disappointed in their tweets (the most vacuous of all mediums) then I'd suggest it's simply because your expectations are overblown. |

Posted this in the Bryce gibbs thread a while back - Sellars either reads my post or I think like Sellars Gibbs plays his best football when he is given a specific task or run with role He shuts them down and contributes more If I was coaching him I would find the opponents best player and say go get him Gibbs He needs to be set a challenge playing loose man in defence or running in the midfield is not his strength |
