The game was lost in the second quarter. St Kilda like so many teams in recent weeks cracked in and won the hard ball.

The other issue was conceding four goals with a minute to play in both the first and second quarters. Our defenders were pathetic. Jamison is completely out of form, Henderson outbodied, Duigan doesn’t get across as an extra player to spoil and kill the contest. We then have smalls who don’t have the required decision making/skill to bring it out of defence (Joseph, Armfield). Tuohy tries to take loads of players on when he isn’t capable yet. The percentage of scores from forward entries for St Kilda was unbelievable – our defence is back to the old days.

The Joseph dropped mark was a huge moment in this game – not only the goal scored by the scumbag but the belief it gave the Saints – a signal that we’re vulnerable when it comes to having to commit to a contest.

In the second quarter the two red time goals were critical – instead of Scotland kicking a goal to bring us within a goal at half time they kick two goals and the difference is 17 points. Huge difference to the game.

It wasn’t just Scotland – Walker twice, Simpson missing a very gettable goal (he’s good at this) and Jordan Russell. But I guess it gets back to our ‘forward line’. Once again we are just about level on inside 50s but we have no one capable of taking contested marks on a relatively consistent level.

The other thing is we have forwards like Jarrad Waite who barely compete on so many occasions. He is outnumbered a lot but he doesn’t even bring the ball to ground. Just flies for mark of the year or falls over or gives away a free kick. His inability as a 29 year old senior player to create a contest or lead up to provide an option is unbelievable. A team screaming out for a key forward and he chooses when he wants to have a go. So immature for a supposed leader….someone that wanted a three year deal. Has his output warranted it? Not in a million years.

The only consolation is that it is early in the season and we have Laidler-Carrazzo-Yarran missing. But the inability to produce when expected and when the opportunity to go top of the ladder is an indictment on the club. Don’t forget the Saints had McEvoy and Fisher out.

Look forward to how this gets mitigated.

Physically soft, mentally weak, structurely poor.

Simply cannot play with any sort of expectation on us.

Make no mistake, this was a huge game and we failed. Miserably.

We have been found out and simply haven't responded. Begs a lot of questions for all involved.

The Carlton FC will not win a flag whilst Ratten is Coach....yes we willplay finals and win a finals game or 2 but Ratten is an average coach who is not capable of taking us to the Holy Grail....

You can put whatever spin on it u like, the facts are we have been worked out and Ratten has no answers...

Brett Ratten = Grant Thomas = wasted oppotunities....Our window is well and truly open and well and truly will be wasted...

This has been the most disappointing game in a very long time. We have all been waiting patiently over the last few years for the blues to become a real contender and give this premiership a shake. After the Collingwood game I started to really believe that this could be the year. After tonight, I have lost hope. We haven't been any good since that game and I don't see us finishing in the top four. My biggest concern is that our premiership window may close a bit sooner than we all expect. That would be a disaster. Sorry for the negativity. This one hurts.

Seems teams work us out after a few rounds and the rot starts. Same as last year. We will end up 6th or 5th.... Same old......

It is very clear that all clubs know that you just breathe on a Carlton player and they wet themselves. So disappointing. The arrogance will be our undoing. The coaching group need to have a good hard look at themselves. I know players make mistakes but teams need several plans. We have just one plan and when that doesn't work it falls over.

Laidler, Yarran and Carrazzo are huge losses. Waite is such a disappointment to me.

Win the clearance count and you go a long way to winning the match, we couldn't buy a clearance.

Can't win the clearances,
Forward line struggling due to slow movement and congestion,
Backline leaking too many goals

Only the ruckwork is going our way.

So poor. Weak, insipid and spineless. I'm ashamed to follow Carlton after that.

Ed Curnow is a $h!t footballer, I can see why he didn't make prior to coming to Carlton.

Average players, second gamers and blokes who haven't had a touch for weeks would look forward to playing Carlton.
