This will be the third year in a row the Blues & the Saints play on a Monday night.

Whilst I will be there, I’m not a huge fan. I don’t care much for being at a night game with the working week ahead, prefer having the round wrapped up on Sunday night.

As far as I’m aware there hasn’t been any communication from the club or the AFL regarding the seasons ahead...has the Monday night fixture with St Kilda subtely become a lock, like Geel/Haw at Easter? Are they trying to groom Carlton & St K supporters to get used to maybe 3 or 4 Monday nights a year eventually? I just find it interesting it’s been the same teams 3 years in a row.

Hope after this year Monday Football given the boot - would much rather Thursday night.

I'm happy to go on Monday night, but it's a stupid time to have it.
If they have to extend beyond Friday night-Sunday, then Thursday is a much better option.

Monday night isn't made for crowds. It's made for TV. I'd expect Fox will have a Sunday night/twilight and Monday night game every round within the next 24 months.

The first Monday night fixture was St Kilda v the Filth wasn't it? In 2009? I guess the Filth didn't want the slot and we put our hands up.

I went the first year we played St Kilda on a Monday mostly for novelty value. Went again last year and didn't enjoy it and won't be going this year.

I much prefer Thursday night if it has to be a school night.

They should give it to clubs like Western Bulldogs and Melbourne and North... You know, clubs that have no supporter base and therefore won't be impacted by gate receipts.

Then the rest of us can go and watch The Voice/Masterchef/7.30 Report/Game of Thrones in peace after seeing our clubs play on the weekend.

I went to the last two Monday night games... hated them (not the result). This year chose the Prince concert instead.

Keep sucking on lemons! Being based in Adelaide and not getting to see the boys live very often (I'm coming across for the game against the Scum in August, and i wouldnt mind watching a game with some Melbourne TCers) I relish the stand alone games, including the monday game. Whilest is obviously sucks because we have to wait an extra day to see them play, it is exposure that money can't buy!

If it had been a raging success you would have had at least 5-6 games this year. It's a weak commitment the AFL is making. Like they're not sure it's a winner but don't want to abandon it just in case. To that end it has to be 2 fairly big teams. If it was Bulldogs v Freo it would be a flop.

it sucks balls, not sure if I'll make the effort, went last year, will probably cave - just don't want to support something that I hate.

Monday Night, Thursday Night, Friday Night, Saturday, Saturday Night, Sunday, Sunday Night ....

The AFL should aim for these times to saturate TV with AFL to dominate Australian football viewing ...

... Oh and make Good Friday a Grand Final Rematch ... (so that all teams get to share it)

Been the last 2 years, but between Monday night, St Kilda and Etihad Stadium, it ticks too many boxes for reasons not to go.

It should be a 6.40 start, not 7.40 by the time the game finishes and then bloody metro trains, it is a very late night.

guess you're ruling out going home to pick up kids first then? Actually would be a struggle for many people to make it on time, plus time slot wouldn't suit the networks

It's no coincidence that this game is always on Mother's day weekend. Remember when we played Essendon* many years back on Mother's Day and got a crowd of about 30,000?

The AFL puts low drawing games on the Sunday to minimize the impact Mother's day has on attendances. This year it's Roo's v Dogs and Freo v Port. Monday night footy is a great way for the AFL to get a good crowd and avoid the dreased Mothers day downturn. Personally I know it makes my Mum very happy that we can do traditional Sunday celebrations without Dad and I trying to schedule in the footy!

I remember that game, it was in 2006. Crowd was just 32,796. At the game, it felt almost surreal that two powerhouses of the competition could possibly attract such a low crowd. I'm sure you're correct in saying that the fact that it was Mother's Day contributed to such a small turnout (and the fact that both sides were ordinary at the time wouldn't have helped).

As for Monday night footy, while it doesn't bother me personally, I can see that it would not be ideal for many. Agree with the comment that it is odd that the AFL only schedules the one Monday night game for the season.
