Good article outside of this: "Since coach Brett Ratten guaranteed the Blues would finish in the top four this season, the players have been regularly questioned about this pledge.".

When did Ratts Guarantee top 4?

Anyway, it will be interesting to see how we address this as a midfield group, who will sacrifice there game to give Judd that break if needed?

Probably since the board demanded it.. and its a 2 year contract... but the second year is an option.
And some very key Carlton people looking at Malthouse if thins go not according to plan.

The pressure is on!!... and about time too!!

Though id never want Malthouse as coach personally...

I don't know what all the fuss is about with ratts saying we will or should finish top 4.... It makes sense, it is logical.

last season we finished 5th....

Do we want to go backwards? No

Do we want to stay where we are? No

Do we want to progress further, as we should with the amount of games across the board having grown again? Hell yes!! we should be expecting that.

The fact is he has said we must finish top 4 which can be an increase of as little as one position.

We should be saying it's time to make a grand final again. It has been 16 years since we won our 16th flag....You can't win one if you are not playing off in a grand final. Yet people are upset that he is saying we must finish top four, we have under sold ourselves which is putting too much pressure on us.......WTF.

Synners,

What don't you like about Malthouse??

Has any coach or player from any team ever said we will play in the grand final or win a premiership?

So hows his plan going?

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/ ... fault.aspx

Quote:
AFL UMPIRES boss Jeff Gieschen has admitted Carlton champion Chris Judd deserved more free kicks last week when being tagged by Fremantle's Ryan Crowley.

Crowley's shutdown job on Judd drew the ire of Gold Coast captain Gary Ablett, who tweeted that the Freo midfielder was "a joke" and should "play the ball, not the man".

Speaking on AFL.com.au's weekly program It's Your Call, Gieschen said Judd was unlucky not to receive more protection from the umpires.

"By and large Crowley did a terrific job, but quite clearly during the game there was a couple of times we missed free kicks to Chris Judd," he said.

"But this can happen any week."

I think Judd has been good, but the taggers are just ahead.

Hopefully the above sees Judd get some relief in coming weeks.

Yeah if he said we are looking to finish top 6, you would be saying he should be wanting to finish top 4 lol

All you gotta do is finish top 4, get a home final if possible and who knows after that

He certainly will. He'll get protection against dud sides with no name taggers and it will all be forgotten by the time we start playing good sides again.

If he's still getting the deserved free kicks by the time we come to play the Bombers again, expect Lloyd and Watson to suddenly start talking about how "certain top players are allowed to get away with murder at stoppages" .

Did the knob gobbler apologize for the holding tha ball decision against Judd late in the 2nd quarter - where Judd took the ball with the one free arm he had (Crowley already had the other arm securely fastened  )?

A bit like much of Robert Harvey's time at St Kilda, untaggable but his team still flogged every week.

Not that I think I have any right to tell Judd how to play but I think he needs to be on the move more around stoppages. I feel alot of the time he is standing still next to his opponent. I think if he was on the move more it makes it harder for his man to hold him or block his run because it is more obvious to the umpires. This is what I thought he was goign to try when he said he has to work on his running patterns and not make it easy for his opponent.

Pretty obvious the simple conclusion you draw from that.

I suspect Judd, our coaching staff and more learned observers assess his contribution while being tagged in a different way.

Ablett's a great footballer and I'd be happy to have him at Carlton but if you take the one-two handballs out of it his 40 possession games are more like 25.
