Bloody crying shame when you watch that . Back in 86 and 87 you never really got the ALF coverage in Sydney so you were not privvy to the full goings on and I had never seen the entire story until I watched that .The doco seems to be a few years old when was it made. A couple of my friends played in that 87 team and one of said there was no way know they were ever going to lose that year

Of topic a little bit - but pretty sure that Paul Meldrum was not actually invited or on the Carlton Table at the Brownlow Medal Count of 1987 and might have had to have been hurried down there at some stage.

I'm sure there'll be a few who haven't seen this.

Selfishly we lost a glittering football career. More importantly the quality of his personality and that of his family has never been lost.

Apart from everything else, that is a great story of a man's devotion to his son.

Loved the doco- remembered liked it was yesterday. My lasting image of Mots is that running goal against Footscray at Western Oval in '87; my jaw just dropped because it was so rare to see a running half-back flanker's goal at a difficult venue (and into the wind too!) I was only 20 and details of the accident were very slow and at first hazy- as others have stated, Mots comes across as a wonderful person who is thankful for the support he received from not only those at CFC but also the incredible love and devotion of his father, Geof and his family. My heart also goes out to Molly Meldrum who not only assisted him (or was there for Mots) but must have suffered significantly in the aftermath of the accident- thankfully, he was able to play out the season and a few more seasons as well.

Thanks Mots- very inspiring!!

Thanks for posting this Camel. Tragic loss for footy fans generally but especially the Blues. I remember vividly how good he was. As doc said, very Trevor Barker like in the air. Inspirational response to overwhelming tragedy. High quality family.

My lasting on field memory was ANZAC day in 86', from memory we came home against the wind at Waverley against the bombers with Mots starring on the wing.

That day Dora playing CHF ran through an Essedon tough nut right at the start. Set the tone.

Vale Geof Motley. 9 x Port Adelaide premiership player, four B&F's in premiership years, AFL Hall of Fame member and most importantly - outstanding father, which is where we got to know him as Peter's loving and caring dad. Thoughts with the Motley family.

RIP Geof Motley.

Thanks for that I hadn't heard the news, and, yes, he was a great bloke by all accounts.
