Post subject:  Kreuzer for Pendlebury -- straight swap.

I'm watching Collingwood vs Hawthorn and Pendlebury's playing particularly well.

However, it's obvious to me that Collingwood are really struggling in the second ruck dept.

It occurs to me that Kreuzer would be perfect for them and then for some reason the idea pops
into my head : would they swap Pendlebury for him?

Now it takes me about three seconds to decide "NO WAY" would I be in that deal.

However, when I run it by a Collingwood guy at work plus a couple of neutrals, they all reckon the same
thing from Collingwood's perspective. NO WAY.

At this point I'm into the "you gotta to be f'n kidding me - Kruezer is going to be an absolute champion".

... and on it goes.

So I need some "unbiased" opinions. Would anyone else here do that swap? Am I just wearing my blue goggles again?

Any offerings welcome.

I thought I'd be generous and check the date of your post, but alas. . . . .

Looks good on paper. Pendlebury is an out and out champion - one of the best readers of the play I've seen. But it's a deal you just wouldn't do in a million years based on the quality of the individual that is Matthew Kreuzer. It stung the club that they had to give up a quality young man like Josh Kennedy and most Carlton supporters didn't get to fully appreciate his class off-field as well as on. As much as the personal stuff needs to 'go by the wayside' to a certain extent in a trade - you'd be hard pressed to ignore it in this instance. You start to lose your soul if you do.

What the Doc said.

I think sometimes posters forget that players are people and not trading cards.

Do we need another flanker?

No.

After Kreuzer's played 100 games, he will be as hard or possibly harder to hold than Pendlebury.

Pendlebury isn't a once in a generation player like Franklin and Judd.

The club wouldn't even give up pick one in Kreuzer's draft to get Judd.

So much wrong with the above.

Even if, for arguments sake, Pendlebury was better, I like Kruze and enjoy barracking for him.
Whilst Carlton is more than just the individual players - it still does include the individual players.

It's not wrong.

It's just an opinion.

Pendlebury has two or three seasons on Kreuzer who blew out his knee.

The likes of Goodes, Judd and Koutoufides at their absolute best were more destructive than Pendlebury.

Kreuzer will be as valuable to Carlton as Murphy who is as good as Pendlebury.

Purely on football ability and ignoring the practicalities, I would do it.

Give me a big game proven A+ grade mid any day. Our midfield would be unstoppable and we would still have Hampson and Warnock.

Kreuzer is obviously a fine player, but he is not an elite ruckman nor forward. He is a very good footballer

I am going to run and hide now.

No brainer - Kruezer all the way. Pendlebury is a star, but its easier to reduce the influence of a star mid than it is of a tall. mobile follower/forward. On GF day, I'd take Kruez in full flight than Pendlebury. I recall Gibbs did a reasonable shut down job on him last year.

Is there any way we can have both??????????????

Pendle has plenty of class and seems like well rounded fella. Would love to have him, but we need a Kreuzer ATM than we do a Pendlebury.

Plus you'll all be happy to know that JK's 7 goals on the weekend has once more thrown the WCE supporters into a stupor.

Apparently.......
Judd was finished at the end of 07.
Hasn't played a good game since.
Has lost all pace.
Only plays for money.

meh, that's Perth, whaddyagunnado

At the moment this may be a reasonable conversation but I think after a breakout year for Kruze in 2012 there is no way you could consider this trade.

Well Pendlebury is worth 250k more than kruze in supercoach so you'd be mad not to do it. You could buy a couple of rookies like clay smith and James magner too. No brainer. DONE DEAL

Yep, that's Perth alright. Judd is finished apparently. I challenge anyone to find an eagles supporter who can just talk constructive, unbiased footy.

Taking the emotion out of it, I'd take Pendlebury quite easily right now.

We have two ruck-men that could capably do that duty for us and we add an absolute A-Grade mid-fielder to the cause.
We all love Kreuzer and wouldn't give the man up for anything, but Pendlebury would bring us closer to a cup.

We must stop calling Kreuzer a mid until he starts to regularly rack up 30+ possessions the way Pendlebury does. Just not fair to the guy.

Wow. You made a similar claim that we could live without Kreuzer because we had Hampson and Warnock. Remembered this after Kreuzer was arguably our best player in round one. This argument is nearly the equivalent of backing in Bower and Thornton to replace Henderson and Jamison. The replacements aren't as good as our best talls.

It might appear to be rational to add another mid, but what you gain in the midfield is balanced out by what we've lost in the ruck. Kreuzer's second efforts and around the ground work both denies and produces goals. I like the old adage that as mids tire, a big man is still a big man at the end of the day. Kreuzer should be untradeable.

Never thought I'd read that we didn't have enough midfielders.
