Thought it was done reasonably well... Managed to get to the central signing tent for a hand shake and signature with Judd Laidler and Betts but by the time that was done it was probably an hour wait for either of the others... All the iPhone cameras obviously slowing thing down. Found Lucas to be the most accommodating and nicest guy around the traps. Buckley was extremely nice and accommodating to the hordes too. Curnow looked fresh from a big night... Wasn't really interested in anyone wanting a photo or autograph... But maybe that was only my experience ![]() Fair turnout though... I'd pick it around the 10-11,000 mark. Very busy. Lots of memberships today hopefully another couple of thousand on top of what's achieved to date. And gee Sam Rowe is a big bloke... And Watson looked a lot bulkier than this time last year. A good day all round. Maybe next time they could open an hour earlier to let everyone get a slightly better opportunity to get to three or maybe all four tents. |

Went along with my two little fellas... They're 3 (almost 4) and 2. By the time we waited in the line for the Gibbs tent, which was about 45 mins, they were done and that was us for the day. Great to get so many people there, and I don't know how they can do it any better, but every single attraction had a 30 min plus wait which just rules out the little kids Maybe they could open up the parklands outside and have a few more events just to spread the crowds a bit? Or maybe if we followed North it wouldnt be a problem ![]() |

Yeah a decent day but just far too long a wait for stuff. Didn't even bother with autograph tent (my kids are 5 and 3) and although the eldest loves juddy he's no match for holding rabbits in a petting zoo. Queues for everything were crazy... Sure it's a fact of life with a big crowds but the day is only 3 hours, and only half of that is player meetups. The stage intro thing seems pointless. Zachary tuohy was roaming around and he was great value, lovely fella. Overall a good day, but fk all parking combined with excessive queuing meant we picked our targets. With an 8yo fanatic I think you may have left disappointed at the waits to see players... With the younguns it was good Better to get to training. ![]() |

The papers quoted 8k attendance when last years was 2k. I guess the bandwagon is well and truly rolling. |

Met and talked to Ed Curnow as well and seemed a very nice bloke. Was more than happy to chat for a little while..... Looks in ripping nick. |

I thought it was terrible. The club is catering for a 2002-2007 family day, not one for 2012. To get a drink, you have to wait half an hour... With three boys, 11, 7 and 5, there was just to much standing in line. After an hour, I was done. |

How do they cater for a 6,000 (allegedly) increase in attendance? |

I went to one a few years ago. Swore I'd never go again. Queues everywhere. Wasn't fun at all. |

Mrs Caz wrote: How do they cater for a 6,000 (allegedly) increase in attendance? How? by membership number increases. It could be done so much better. Nothing seems to have changed in the last 5 or so years, even though our membership numbers are up. |

Mrs Caz wrote: How do they cater for a 6,000 (allegedly) increase in attendance? What is the agenda of the club for the day? The agenda of the club for the family day dictates what is put in place for the event. From my point of view the current agenda of the club is to hold the event and do it for the least amount of money and at the same time feel like they are giving something back to its supporter base. If the agenda is to reach out too as many Carlton people as possible and try and give them a good experience then catering for 6,000 people won't be an issue because you would be expecting them to come. |

You can read this thread every year. Nothing changes. Free yourself from the feeling that because you have a family and you're a Carlton fan, you should attend Carlton family day. They cater for 1000-1500 people at most. I would prefer it wasn't free and they ran a proper event. I last went ?5 years ago and have no desire to return. |

linchpin wrote: Mrs Caz wrote: How do they cater for a 6,000 (allegedly) increase in attendance? How? by membership number increases. But membership was high last year as well, so that doesn't necessarily help them. buzzaaaah wrote: You can read this thread every year. Nothing changes. Sad but true. But in my view, I know what to expect. I don't go to any event like this expecting it to be a walk in the park. Large numbers of people means big queues and long waits if I want to participate in certain activities. I wait patiently or I don't go in the first place. Of course, kids are different, but they have to learn life is tough. ![]() |

Hey! Maybe the club should clone the players, so that way the lines for autographs aren't as long. Email 'em. |

Perhaps they could capitalize better by hiring/consulting with proper event people! Novel idea I know...but from an outsider looking in (I have never attended a family day) they have inexperienced staff running the show...(or marketing the brand) if that's how you want to look at it. But you get what you pay for and I suspect football clubs don't pay very much. |

This sounds like last year's thread...and the year before...and the year before that. That's why I didn't go. Took my eldest to a 'family day' type training session in July school hols last year. A few hundred in attendance, plenty of photo and autograph opportunities, and free sausages. |
