Quote:
Essendon* legend Matthew Lloyd says Carlton has completed the cycle from pauper to prince and, for the first time in a decade, can be considered a legitimate premiership threat........

''We all know their midfield is good enough. It's that key forward spot,'' he said yesterday. ''Jarrad Waite has had injuries. If he can remain fit and be that target for them, it takes the pressure off [Eddie] Betts and [Jeff] Garlett to kick the goals for them. Aside from that, I think [Lachie] Henderson and [Michael] Jamison are good enough key defenders to win a flag.''

The only thing Monga got wrong in the article was the comment about the Scum winning a final this season - it's gunna be hard for them to win one when they won't even be in the Eight

Wasn't he potting us from all angles at the start of last season, with the exception of his praise for Yarran?

Lloyd's got it spot on here about Carlton.

And he didn't say Bombers would win a final, but that their aim would be to win one. But I don't have them in my eight. I have them somewhere behind Haw, Coll, CARLTON, WCE, Geel, StK, Freo and Adelaide.

He was pretty good on the Blues for most of the year but got a bit over excited when they were up against the Bombers suggesting an upset was on the cards.

Exactly.
There is no way he actually thinks this. He`s trying the reverse psychology approach like Hird did with his Fab 4 article. When it comes to Carlton, Lloyd`s hate is an obsession.
There is no doubt he still thinks we are soft and will fail this year.

He'll be one of the first to stick the boot in when we lose a game.

And the first to start making excuses when Essendon* lose plenty

Something like...
'I expected so much from them...they really should be right up there, with all their no.1 drafts, and that expensive camp they went on.
Gee...what a let down. It seems they are pretenders after all.

On the other hand, Essendon*, who aren't expected to do anything for years, having such a young team, have been absolutely flying!'

   :hitcomputer:

Don't forget that Monga Snr. played for the Blues

He's trying to set Essedon up as under dogs for the early–season clash against Carlton.
